In second hand he's just around 40 or 50 bucks and often in good condition. Just wash and good to go.

Also, with the difference of price, you can buy a TRRS jack to connect to your DAC for exemple (Shanling Up4 2022 that's nice&cheap or the Fiio BTR5) in 2.5/4.4mm

Or you can buy the 560s in second hand for around or less than 100 bucks, and they're even better.

At any rate, this one seems close to the 598 that I have, it is really nice! The bass and sub bass is not loud, but they have a really good definition. Like, a "line" of bass guitar, or, not sure of the English for that, a "slap" on a bass, and globally the "attack" on guitars is really nice on the 598/599SE.

They're less well balanced than the HD 600/650 that I tried (or might have been the 660S 🤔), but you have a really better definition in bass and sub bass. (overall the 600 series is better, but for modern rock, punk, metal, pop-rock/poppunk and "indie rock", 599 SE is better, IMO)

So, a little EQ (wavelet on Android) and it's a formidable platform for a less than 100 bucks headphone. Movies and series with a nice source (dac, good soundcard, etc) are really good experiences, Dolby Atmos helps too, but isn't necessary.

Didn't have time to gaming since I own it, but no doubt it's a really nice headphone. However, because it's totally open, you'll need to have a quiet PC/console. (like, I don't use them for a movie if I'm not alone in the house, and if people talks even in another room, I push the volume up) (also, the HD 600/650 have weird stuff/artifacts in spatialisation, 598/599SE/560S don't, they're fine for gaming)

So, I recommend it to you, but you could save some bucks with people solding their stuff after the black friday/Christmas and get it for cheaper, or a get 560s for the same price.

Nah get some thieaudio ghosts theyre 80 on linsoul and beat up the 5 series pretty good

[–] PojkenSomDuger@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Tried them. Not a fan.

[–] Gucci_Boner@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I looooove them

These were the headphones that got me into the audio world. Not sure how much they go for these days, but the price seems reasonable. Ignore the discount as many companies are known to price hike before a sale and quote the originally hiked prices as the pre-sale price. Ask yourself if yourself firstly if you even want a new pair of headphones, if so, then are you sure these are the ones you want? If you never had eyes on these in the first place then it's likely just fomo.

Get HD6xx from drop.com

[–] JTCPingasRedux@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

At that price, absolutely. I remember metal571 calling the 59X series the gateway drug to good audio.

They are great for fps gaming and everything else. Music is a personal taste so I can't say if they're for you, but i enjoy them for apex and youtube/music

They aren't great, so much so that I consider my first hifi headphones to be the Deva Pro and not that thing I've owned for like 5 years

I'd still buy em tho if you got nothing. I treat mine like a garbage can but it's nice. Be warned that you can't replace headband and it basically gets torn apart

Idk about 599s but I wore my 598s for years and loved every second of it. They were SUPER comfortable and now my wife uses them since I changed to closed back headphones

[–] TheRealPyroManiac@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Fantastic headphones considering the price, well worth it imo.

[–] Empty-Dog-6429@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I got a pair of these (599SE) for 66% off ~ a year ago. They honestly don't sound that great, listed price is a rip off, sale price is ok but I think I rather wish I saved the $100 cad and put that towards a different pair instead.

[–] Jascmu@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is a great price for these headphones and quite honestly these headphones compete with some of my 300 to 500 dollar sets! The sounds stage is super impressive and they are just overall the best bang for your buck headphones ln the market in my opinion! These are the headphones that kicked off my journey into the audiophile world! Don't say I didn't warn you 😉

I have a pair. Theyre really good. But as other commenters said this isnt the deal of a lifetime

[–] obie_krice@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I have these paired with an IFI zen can air for listening to vinyl. Very mids forward sound, but a fairly warm and pleasant tone, not to mention supremely comfortably. Vocals really pop and are front and center in the mix. Drums sound nice and punchy, and the general tone is fairly balanced. The highs aren’t intolerable IMO and aren’t at all fatiguing. I have a pair of TIGR 300Rs which are some of the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn, and once I got the HD599s that immediately changed. These are insanely comfortable. Most have already said that bass isn’t their strong suit, so they would benefit from some EQ. I bought mine for $80 a year and a half ago and don’t regret it one bit.

[–] FunkinDonutzz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

How do these compare to the now-old HD558? I've been using the HD558 for a solid 12 years at this point, could probably use a refresh...

[–] Theliminal@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

There are some really sly black Friday deals out there at the moment so be careful, saw one yesterday claiming the HD600 was half price at $245. Never seen them sold for higher than $290 before. They were claiming the original price as $490!

[–] coldravenge@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

YES. 100%.

These are my go to for long listening sessions. I have them connected to my JDS Labs Atom Amp (you don’t actually need one to drive them) and the sound is heavenly. I usually wear them for several hours at a time while reading a book and they are very comfortable. My ears never get hot which would make sense because of the open-back feature and the velour earpads. I wear glasses and wearing the headphones for a long time never got to the point where it was painful, unlike previous headphones I’ve owned.

[–] Equivalent_Half_808@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Just be careful with the cable, it's non-standard. 2.5mm to 6.35mm jack

[–] Rugo0@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Sometimes they do the same kinda sale on the official Sennheiser site, i have bought this a while ago and i'm not disappointed.

[–] ACBorgia@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I got HD598SE for 60 euros (used) and they're really good

[–] Agreeable-Photograph@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wouldn’t be bothered for anything below 650 range

[–] TeoTB@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I've owned these since 2021 and they don't sound particularly good in my honest opinion. The upper bass is boomy, the presence region around 4-6ish khz is pretty harsh (this one might just be my unit as it doesn't show up on some measurements, but it's definitely harsh on mine) and the upper treble above 10khz is very subdued. This certainly works for some tracks, but for the vast majority I find myself craving a completely different sound signature.

That being said, these are the single most comfortable headphones I've ever owned or tried out, and their build quality is also excellent. I've gotten a lot of use out of them for things like binging shows, long gaming sessions with friends etc. where comfort is of utmost importance and sound quality is not as easily noticeable, and with all that usage the earpads look and feel brand new. They're just not my cup of tea when it comes to listening to music. EQ helps but there's still some messiness in the treble that I haven't been able to fully eliminate. Oratory1990's latest preset seems to be the best so far.

TL;DR: Highly recommended for comfort and build quality, not so much for sound quality.

[–] ContributionAnnual@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Sony mdr 7506 is better. more expensive but just way more convenient. Tried them both. The sony is just easy wearing and easy enjoyment

[–] gabzlel@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I actually bought them yesterday, impulsively. This is the first open back I will get and I will make a review of them soon. :) might not be the best deal ever considering it was for $100 before, but still a good step into the right direction, I think?

I currently have Beyerdynamics DT770 pro 250.

[–] 99conrad@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

They leak a lot of sound so if you’re ganna be by others know that they’ll hear what you hear.

[–] Multialliot@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] Adv0kat39@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Their fair price is $50 for used ones
