I posted something yesterday talking about how I hit $25k MRR.

Then I got dozens of DMs. Some from people who genuinely wanted advice.

But some others are depressed that they’re not rich. “How can I hit $25k MRR? I hate my life rn!”

Can we please take a chill pill and stop watching hustle porn?! I failed countless businesses. I cried so many nights cause I convinced myself I was a failure.

I have friends who are worth $10M+ by age 21. I have friends who are worth $10M+ by age 31. And I have friends who are worthless.

It’s fucking different for everyone. No need to be depressed or angry at yourself. Just keep learning and growing. I made some of my best friends in the process of building (and failing) my businesses.

Do people not build businesses for fun anymore? Do we have to immediately flex on Instagram in order to be validated?

/end rant

It seems most ppl want success just for the flex. I see it all the time. I grew up in mostly affluent areas. I never saw my parents' generation make money, then immediately broadcast it to the world. Yes, these ppl have nice homes and cars, but this generation is different. Ppl that make no money try to flex wealth. We live in the attention economy it seems.

Yeah starting a business for fun is for people who don’t have to worry every day about paying their rent

[–] tshungwee@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Real or just Click bait hustle porn does have some inspiration or idea value!

Even the really fake ones make you think… so I say watch in moderation but with a pinch of salt!

Totally agree, but would like to add that we should probably stop judging people's worth by their financial wealth.

How much money you have is not indicative of whether you are a good or successful person.

Lol, build business for fun. Better question is: do people even think of business as money making enterprise anymore?

The bull shit about having fun with business is for rich people.

Yeah, overcoming challenges and providing a service makes you feel good, but it’s not fun like say, pickle ball.

[–] K-P-I@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

What do you mean friends that are worthless? 😨 A liver has a price tag. 😅

[–] abrahamsoloman@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You have friends who are "worthless"?

[–] Prett-E-motion96@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I also think that with how expensive cost of living is, it’s more difficult to pursue the entrepreneur dream.. or the American dream. Not that it isn’t possible because it is. But there’s many factors that can cause someone to be depressed chasing the dream of being self made..

  • comparison on social media
  • analysis paralysis, so many ideas to choose from
  • literally quality of what they put in their mind/body like music, food, etc.
  • being in a job they hate, trying to gain confidence or traction in their side hustle to turn it full time..

So I guess instead of telling people what to STOP doing could you give advice for what TO DO?

It sounds like you might be ignoring feed back from your market?? And not fully serving the people who come to your dms with questions.. who are brave enough to be vulnerable with you.

Yes failure! A very important part of learning. I've failed over and over again, countless times trying to financially better my life. What I've learned from these failures is priceless.

Hats off to you if you can shit a golden egg but not everyone has that ability but with a little time and a little bit of hard lessons learned you can make chicken salad out of chicken shit!

[–] DamagedShadows1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You have a very real point. Part of it is also people want to learn and get out of this worker bee state where they don't feel appreciated by their boss or company anymore. Everyone is over it and trying to learn how to grow and improve.

I failed a few different business ideas myself but each time I learned something that I didn't know beforehand so I don't necessarily see it as a failure if you learn something.

I recently started kind of a coaching business teaching entrepreneurs and wanna be entrepreneurs valuable skills that can either use in their business or make a business out of. Teaching stuff like Marketing, SEO, etc. I occasionally have people ask me about e-commerce and other stuff that I'm not the most knowledgeable about but I know enough to point someone in the right direction on.

That being said I always tell people hey if you work hard maybe you will make it. You have a higher chance of making it if you work hard where as if you do nothing you won't ever make it. But your going to fail, your going to have hard days, your going to have days when you ask yourself why are you doing this? Things will be rough, this is not a get rich quick scheme, this is a grind, learn, grow, improve, and learn some more with a bit of failure sprinkled on the top. Keep at it and you will succeed in the end, give up and well that's a wrap then.

Do people not build businesses for fun anymore?

It's weird because as fun as it has been it's never been the first thing I think of when doing work for my startups. I do enjoy the process once I'm in it but the stress and pressure of it amounting to something can sometimes be a hindrance. At the end of the day my dreams are in reach but they can be reached so much sooner if it all works out.

You must stop watching porn, it will cause people's memory to slowly decline.

Thanks for the reminder. I just bought a website and am so excited but I also need to realize the growth will be slow or not at all.

I'm introverted and have social anxiety but I genuinely like reaching people or helping them.

I kind of did content creation by storywriting back in 2005-06 and I really enjoyed it. I had 3 loyal followers from the Cayman Islands. I was just happy they liked my story but business and side projects do take a lot of effort and thought. The best part is being in control and working on something for yourself.

[–] mrhonk@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You need to fail to grow. You can't just ace it in one go. I'm doing something and its taken me more than 5 years to almost break even.

Yes i fail a lot a lot but what differentiate me from my peers is writing down the cause of my failure and try to improve its not about failing or succeding its about growing

My job puts me in a position to be around a lot of very successful entrepreneurs, one thing I’ve noticed is the really successful ones never focus on being rich or the money. They’re focused/obsessed with the business or the deal and the money is a by product. Most people who subscribe to hustle porn are only focused on money and being rich. They really have no clue how to get rich but they want it so bad it drives them crazy. I used to be this way and at some point I really started paying attention to how these people I wanted to be like acted, guess what? I’m headed in that direction, I now have opportunities, I get invited to sit at the table with them.

One thing I also want to add is stop trying to hustle everyone, share your success and I promise more opportunities will come your way. Most amateurs only focus on what’s in front of them right now and miss the big picture.
