Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

This artist's own art becomes relevant in self reference:

[–] Mark12870@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think he used this one in multiple variations. But I love that one too. Pretty much a good meme material. 😁

[–] some_random_nick@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

The original was Goku and Spiderman making love, if I'm not mistaken

New fear unlocked: What if babies are only born as babies because the people delivering them expect to be delivering a baby?

Someone with sufficiently strong will (or magic) or who has been completely convinced otherwise could change the outcome. Like this.

... wait. Maybe it only applies to placentas. Let's hope it's only placentas.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 28 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I can't remember any details on this, so I'm probably going to butcher it, but I once heard a comedian talk about this. Roughly, he said:

I love it when couples say "we're expecting." Like "we're expecting a baby... But it could be an orangutan!"

[–] ObsidianZed@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That sounds like Garfunkle and Oates.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Possible, but I don't think I ever watched or listened to their material. I was thinking John Mulaney or Mike Birbiglia but couldn't find a clip of either of them saying it after a brief search.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Gives me strong Mulaney vibes. I know I've heard it before.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nah, he likes babies too much

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He had a whole bit that included babies being skinned for wallets by a cold laser bath machine but okay.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Who would do that if they didn't like babies?

[–] vonxylofon@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

That's Bene Gesserit 101.

[–] ObsidianZed@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I can't guarantee the authenticity but a friend of a friend's wife ended up pregnant. She very clearly wanted to be a mother more than anything.

She ended up kind of having a miscarriage because the placenta was just straight up empty. Like her brain just convinced her body that she was pregnant and began the process.

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 13 points 11 months ago

Silliness aside, phantom pregnancies are a thing, but you generally don't get a placenta without something else besides. If there didn't seem to be anything, it was probably so non-viable that it dissolved or was reabsorbed, kicking off the rejection process.

Most don't even get to that stage though. Super early miscarriages are said to happen incredibly often and the carrier doesn't necessarily even know that they'd conceived in the first place. A big hint is a delayed, heavy period, but most people who get periods won't bat an eye at things like that happening. That'll happen for a number of - occasionally hard to explain - reasons even without being sexually active.

You mean... ShrΓΆdinger's baby?!

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 26 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Did that take nine months to arrive? She better get her money back

So, uh, fun fact, "placenta" is just the Latin word for "cake".

~~So the word you're looking for is "calzone".~~

I like c/comicstrips but I wish there was a way to exclude certain artists whose sense of humour is incompatible with mine.

I never want to see this artist nor cyanide and happiness ever again, if I can help it.

[–] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 22 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Maybe this community can start putting the artist/source in the post title. Unless that becomes a rule I doubt that would happen though.

What don't you like about C&H?

[–] tiramichu@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

It's a comedy strip, and humour is extremely subjective. What works for one person won't work for someone else.

I see it as intentionally being a "bad taste" comic by design, and as someone who never enjoyed Happy Tree Friends or other franchises which use violence, sex or toilet humour as cornerstones, it's already on an uphill battle as far as my tastes are concerned.

Of course, dark humour and "bad taste" have been important parts of human comedy since forever, and I don't mind them when it serves a purpose. But Cyanide and Happiness seems to exist purely on bad taste, as if bad taste is entertaining in it's own right.

To me it feels completely insubstantial, and so for me it's a pass.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 months ago

C&H had some hits years ago but yeah it does seem like they have to keep jumping the shark to stay relevant and it’s a miss so so so often.

That said I’d take 10 bad C&H over another bluejayoo

[–] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 months ago

That's fair. I keep their website bookmarked but sometimes I wonder why I bother to check it at all. I think my sense of humor was a bit simpler 10 years ago.

[–] BlueSquid0741@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 11 months ago

The real problem with Cyanide and Happiness is that it’s just a shadow of Rob DenBleyker’s former greatness… Joe Zombie!

[–] Mark12870@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago (2 children)

It's a pitty. I love Extrafabulous comics. And I was thinking people would like it here. Even so his humour could be kinda weird. πŸ˜‡

[–] tiramichu@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 months ago

I'm sure lots of people here do and will like it - just not me! :)

You should keep posting it, obviously.

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 1 points 11 months ago

...I love it and think your OP has an extremely long stick up his butt lol

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 9 points 11 months ago

A community rule to tag the artist in the title would make it possible to filter by keyword. Seems like a pretty reasonable rule to put in place, imo, if only for attribution purposes even.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I would like to make a rule so op here only gets cyanide and happiness and oop's comics on Lemmy ever

[–] wetbeardhairs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 months ago

Was that last frame her burning the roof of her mouth because it was so hot?
