Haven't saw any reports online, so here it is

Guess my luck finally ran out, even though I had a few IEMs with widespread QC issues (Chu, Salnotes Zero, Final E500), this is my first "win"

Other than the faceplate issue, I like the sound (can't justify spending this much since I own an EM6L), hopefully the Chopin lasts long

The front fell off!

[–] 24grant24@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Never seen that happen, does the faceplate falling off affect the sound at all in this model.

[–] YetAnotherWagie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'm not sure, because these arrived yesterday and I only tested it out for 30 minutes

Tried these again today and didn't really feel any difference

Did you Chop it off

Open back IEM

[–] ThBasicAsian@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wow, I’ve seen a lot of reviews before buying the Chopins and I’ve never seen any issues with the faceplate. 🤞here’s hoping that this was just a one time issue before mine arrive.

Is the em6l THAT close to the performance of the chopin?

[–] blorg@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

No, the Chopin is far ahead of it. They are quite different sound signatures though, the EM6L is much warmer with mid-bass and also sharper pinna gain.

While the Chopin has the controversial bass "tuck" from the Variations and is a bit more restrained in the highs- relative to the EM6L. It's not that restrained, either, it has quite a bit in the upper mids, it's more that the EM6L is hot.

I can see someone preferring the EM6L but for me it wouldn't be close.

Thanks for the insight!

Hrm, I have the AFUL P5 and have been looking at the Chopin. I'm thinking I may stick with the P5 since the P5 is like the cusp of where I want the upper mids/treble to be

[–] blorg@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Bass is a lot more impactful on the Chopin but it's a smoother glide down with less of a "tuck" on the Performer 5. Chopin does have a bit more in the upper mids than the P5 but not to the point it's problematic. Treble about the same I think, both are inoffensive. Both are great, I think purely on sound I probably would give it to the Chopin but it's a matter of taste, the P5 is ahead of the EM6L for me.

Fit is a LOT better on the Performer 5, it's a particularly good fit IEM while the Chopin is somewhat of a challenge... not impossible to get a good fit but requires more tip rolling I think. And even after all that- the Performer 5 is still a better fit, it's a particularly comfortable and good fitting IEM (and small, for an IEM of that pseudo-custom style).

Yeah based on the links and my experience with the P5, I can cross the Chopin off my list. I love my P5 and think some minor EQ is the way to go. Thanks!

Please take my opinion with a grain of salt, because the EM6L is my daily driver, while I only had these for a single day

I do like the Chopin, but for me currently I can't justify a $100 price difference. My opinion might change if I use the Chopin more

[–] Aura_Guard@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Thanks for the info!

[–] blorg@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Take it up with the seller. I've got 50% refunds for exactly this sort of thing, with me accepting to fix it myself... if it's an easy fix and this looks like it, could be a win for both parties, they don't want it back.

It’s more of sho’ pen than show pen imho.

I had the same issue with my Moondrop Variations. The faceplat of the left speaker fell off and a part of the housing got damaged without the plate.

I mean kinda unlucky but the inside does appear to be pretty. I was satisfied until I read the title

[–] dankmeeknot@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Geeez what a qc

[–] Soviettoaster37@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'm in a bit of an altered state and saw the faceplate way before I saw the IEM itself and I thought it was some weird guitar pick

[–] Kevrelus@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

My gypsy ancestors are celrbrating. SELL ALL THE COPPER

Chopin or nova vs AirPods Pro 2 in just sound?

[–] LedZeppole10@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ever hear of glue

[–] obiedge@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

QC's head should be on the Chopin board for this.

[–] PsychologicalMine811@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Does that open up the sound stage?

[–] aEisbaer@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Either RMA if you still have warranty or there should be something called Faceplate glue specifically made for IEM faceplates :) This might void your warranty. Depends on the manufacturer tho

[–] SteelPriest@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

All these attempts and no-one's got it yet:

"Do you regret chopin' it off?"

[–] Willkins@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Seems like an easy enough thing to fix with some super glue, at least, though it obviously shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Have to say it's interesting to see the wiring and the innards of it though.

[–] ProfSnipe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I wouldn't use super glue because it can stain the plastic if even a little seeps out, some B7000 would be better as it doesn't melt plastic.

[–] oratory1990@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Protip: use Lazerbond or a similar UV-hardening glue.
Super cheap and doesn‘t harm the plastic. Can easily be cleaned.

[–] moonra_zk@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How do you UV harden a glue that is gonna sit between two completely opaque surfaces? Honest question.

[–] oratory1990@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You‘d put it in the seams of course, not behind the opaque surface :)

[–] blorg@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I used B7000 to fix a Tanchjim Kara and it worked very well.
