He will always be a bad defender player, because with his size and lack of wingspan and strenght it's impossible not to be especially in the current era.

But in the last 2 seasons I'll say he has gone from absolute worst defender in the world to at least showing effort when I saw him, not sure if it's consistent, but still

The worst defender is nba is now jalen brunson. Congrats to trea young.

Of guys who play a ton of minutes it's either Huerter or Hali

[–] TruthSayerFu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I forgot about Hali lmao. His is putting up historical offensive numbers and giving up historical offensive numbers to the opposing guard lol.

[–] shanduin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mate I think the entire team is giving up historical numbers to the opposing side. Nobody on that pacers squad is playing defense, and I am right here for it baby.

Haliburton is like the new Steve Nash. Brilliant offensive mind. Priviledged spectator on defense.

No way. Jordan Clarkson is so much worse

I saw him lock down khawi late lmfao. But you might be on to something

Damn he actually did a good job

Can't believe 5'6 Trae young played lockdown D on 7'2 Mikal Bridges

[–] jumboponcho@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Traes been giving effort for the last year and a half, gets deflections and stalls ballhandlers till the help comes at lot better

I have said a bunch of times, and anyone who watches the Hawks consistently can confirm. Trae has actually been somewhat servicable on D most nights last year and this year. In fact, I would say even kinda good occasionally. He is no worse than almost high usage guards and better in fact than a fair number. Eye test and all advanced metrics say so.

yeah but the narrative says worst defender in the league

[–] kay9ine@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Imma be honest with you, no one cares what you tell them, they will just hate Trae. And it sucks because Trae is actually a great player

He has fast feet n reactions both those things help. But his physical measurements are all people can see. This year especially n last years he’s improved defensively n gives effort . He’s small but cos of his agility n speed he’s better defensively then many think. I honestly think Luka or haliburton are worse defensively then trae. Yeah they’re bigger but they just look worse n lazier : EPM which only defensive star i remotely care about agrees. I would and have wanted trae to make an effort to add 10- of muscle cos I think it could help him both ways; but maybe he’s worried it’ll hurt his shot.

A reminder that Trae has been the 3rd best defender on the hawks this season

[–] EnoughLawfulness3163@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nobody watches the hawks and yet has a ton of opinions on Trae. Classic good player on small market situation

[–] BlazeMegatron@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mikal Bridges

What I saw was Trae getting a help double team, they getting lost on a screen.
