Many teams are currently in their window (Bucks, Celtics, Suns, Sixers, Nuggets, etc). Who are the teams that are still 2-3 years away, but will be championship juggernauts for years to come?

Grizzlies, Rockets, Timberwolves, Dallas

[–] SirGingerbrute@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I don’t see the Rockets

If their picks work out then they have to pay them. Sengun, Green, Jabari, Thompson, KPJ looking for money? It works now that they improved bc Brooks and FVV can get paid while these guys are rookie scaled.

But once they have to pay them market value, they won’t be able to supppment veterans. While some look good, none are game changing.

Wolves are an example of the opposite. KAT zis multiple time all star, Gobert DPOY, Ant sky is the limit. They’re somewhat limited in assets short term because of Gobert trade but it’s almost like a piece away.

KPJ? Tell me you don’t watch basketball or have a CLUE about the rockets lol

Lmaoooooo even if that shit is true our future is 10x brighter than yours 🤣

[–] frankievejle@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Oh god this is so boring. Obvs you more talent than us, but the idea that the Rox can be a contender stating from 3 years from now is hardly ludicrous.

[–] Directionerection@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

You forgot no one will want to stay and live in okc. Just like harden and Durant got out of there asap, so will all the players you have now. The thunder won’t sniff a title in your lifetime little guy

Dallas bruh ?? They always seem to be in Win Now mode and havent even given Luka a decent center. Bruv they will fall hard if Luka leaves them.

[–] Street-Common-4023@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Dallas and rockets got work to do

[–] andcanigettahottub@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Nobody has said the Spurs but I think in 3 years they could be a 50 win team best case scenario. LeBron made it to the finals in year 4. Wemby may just do the same

[–] CodeBlueLegacy@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

If the Raptors finish 7-14, then the Spurs will have two lottery picks.

[–] guillaume_rx@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The Spurs will probably get there if all goes well, but they will only start to look similar to OKC now by year 3 or 4.
By year 4-5, they'll probably be considered a potential Dynasty in the making. Maybe have a sniff at a ring by that time.

Of all the young cores, OKC is the only one I’m confident is on a championship trajectory. They check off all the boxes - franchise player, young two-way supporting cast, good coach, ample draft capital.

Pacers and Hawks have defensive issues, Orlando has spacing issues, pelicans have health issues. Spurs have their superstar but they’ll need a few years to grow.

Cavs, kings, wolves, grizzlies - not confident that they have a championship ceiling with their current cores. Dallas is trending upwards but has work to do. These teams are all exciting but the unfortunate reality is that most of them will top out as decent playoff teams.

[–] Deep_Egg1442@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (5 children)

Okc have rebounding issues

[–] NavalEnthusiast@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

While I’m biased as an OKC fan, I think it’s somewhat salvageable. Both of our centers are 21 and Chet especially has the length to develop a better rebounding game. The main issue is that OKC only plays one big at a time and the team struggles to box out which affects Chet but especially Jwill who’s not big and needs that help. The lack of a sturdy and athletic PF is really pressing but I think Presti will probably address that eventually

[–] Gino-Bartali@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Finding a big heavy boi to grab boards is probably one of the more easily found missing pieces.

Orlando is exciting but which of their guys will become a top 5 player? It's early but I'm not seeing it

I don’t see the high end talent on the rockets that would make a genuine contender

[–] ladwagon@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sengun is legit, and I feel like Green has looked better when he's off ball which is a lot more this year. I'm not sure if that developes into a title team but I'm confident they'll be REALLY good

Sacramento, OKC and Orlando maybe all the teams that are prime now will be washed in a couple years, Boston and Philly won’t win squat, the others are only contenders now

Lemme get my visions globe

[–] raki016@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

I don't trust OKC. I don't trust Chet’s foot, and SGA isn't good enough.

My guess is Boston still, Denver still, Giannis, and Luka, wherever they may be.

For my team, I'll be happy if we're perennially competitive in the playoffs. Everything else is a bonus

[–] RpS-@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

SGA isn't good enough? Man is an MVP candidate if the team continues with the form that they have.

[–] TaintWasHere@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Sga is definitely one of the younger dudes who very well could be a #1 on a championship team. He's a perennial 1st team All NBA/all defensive team type guy, like Ant probably will be too.

[–] RThreading10@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

"SGA isn't good enough" is a crazy take

[–] shutemdownyyz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Lol how is SGA not good enough? I guess you’ll have to actually watch a game on the 28th

Are kings too old already? They'd be my pick without thinking about it too much

[–] zenmonkeyfish1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

No, but they haven't necessarily improved this year while the league has. They also weren't considered true championship contenders last year by most analysts despite their offensive force

Jokic is 28, Giannis is 28, 2-3 years from now whatever teams they’re on will still probably be top dogs.

[–] sufically@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I'm not too sure about that. 3 years from now they'll both be 32 during the playoffs and while most players still have most of their prime athleticism at that age I'm not sure that goes for near 7 footers. While Jokic's game isn't based on his athleticism he'll still have to work harder to maintain his current level

[–] KingOCream@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think they’re both in the Steph/lebron category where they’ll be able to carry the load well into their 30s. Wether or not that is good enough to beat the young cores coming up I don’t know

I feel like most star players at that age have become such veterans of the game that their BBIQ more than makes up for their athleticism.

[–] TenaciousDeer@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (23 children)

But the other Bucks will be OLD, not sure there's any way to renew that roster

If the Pacers can play average defense, holy fuck they’ll be good.

I think you’ll see OKC just with that youth but it probably falls apart after 5 years? Then the rest will be Celtics, Mavs, Spurs, Houston, Denver, and for my absolute hail mary Knicks. I feel like the nba is a bit more consistent than we’d like and it’s not gonna be a flip flop of who makes the playoffs and don’t. I was guessing teams who historically do well (C’s Mavs Spurs) cause they seem to be franchises who suffer a year or two but turn it around quickly. Denver I can see still dominating a bit getting new life from random signing and trades. Knicks just feel like one “I wanna play in nyc” superstar away from something. Houston also feels like they’ll make a sudden uptick one year

[–] Wild_Particular4003@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Knicks. Cavs

[–] earthgrasshopperlog@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago
[–] maltrab@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Orlando. Arturas Karnisovas has done a great job of rebuilding them.

[–] iloveyoumiri@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

My grizzlies are missing 7 of our best 9 players and chalked less than 5 point losses to the Celtics and nuggets put some respect on our future

[–] Tearz_in_rain@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

My dark horse pick: The Pistons.

OKC, Rockets

[–] JoshzillaRoar@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The Thunder are coming

[–] messibusiness@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Everyone’s going on draft picks and current young talent rather than teams who are always up there and are attractive enough not to worry about the draft.

Don’t forget about free agency. Lakers and Heat, I’ll have the Spurs because Wemby is real and OKC do have everything lined up. Houston decent playoff team.
