He'll be back on a team soon he didn't do anything that bad what teams are willing to tolerate depends on talent and skill level I guess they saw him as expendable but another team will 100% pick him up after a while it wasn't that serious
NBA - Main
Game analysis, highlights and everything else that is happening in the NBA.
When the Clippers worked him out they said he wasn't ready physically. An out of shape Kai Jones is essentially worthless in all aspects of basketball so if his mental health has gotten him to that point it's gonna be a wrap. Its not really that he did anything bad, he just kinda sucks other than being a pogo stick
Kai Jones can definitely get back in shape that's if he hasn't already he's athletic and still pretty freakish on that end if he keeps working he can get a "prove it" contract he's not the first of his type
Yall gotta stop saying this shit when you haven't watched a single minute of hornets ball. Kai Jones is not an NBA caliber player, this dude averaged 3/2/0 in the fuckin g league.
I still think hes worth a spot as a project if hes willing to take a step back and earn playing time. Hes very athketically gifted and teams have kept players for a couple year just for that alone
Kai Jones doesn’t have enough talent to overcome any distractions he seriously struggled in his 3rd summer league.
I can see Kai's thought process... I can also see the team's pov. Mental health is complex and we have barely scratched the surface on how to treat it. It's not like allopatric medicines for physical ailments where you pop a pill or have surgery and things get fixed. Therapy depending on the practitioner lies in the gray area of pseudo science and science and depending on who you consult approaches and results can be vastly different.
I mean there is a reason therapist have to go to therapy before they become therapist.
Shit is super expensive here in europe. I agree with your point as for Kai i really hope he gets through the grieving period he is going through.
As a therapist (who thinks every therapist should be required to undergo therapy, at least during the schooling process), US therapists are not required to attend therapy
"US therapists are not required to attend therapy"
I didnt know that, i remember having to drive my cousin a couple of time to his therapy sessions which was far from where he lived, the cost was so high he had to loan money from the bank, since it was mandotary i think 3-4 times a week.
Mental health is difficult for everyone. Black community is far behind when it comes to embracing it. Men are far behind as well.
If you need to force 4 sessions / hours of talking about your situation and feelings to move forward in your career, I think thats more than fair. At the very least to protect everyone.
And if he wanted to meditate again he needs it structured so its happening consistently
The USA has been in a mental crisis for almost 30 years now and nobody wants to address it.
I said this in another comment below but:
As a therapist, I'm curious if the team picked someone out for him (my suspicion) or allowed him to find his own therapist.
One of the first things we learn as therapists is that training and modality isn't as important as the relationship btw. therapist and client. If Kai felt forced to go and couldn't even choose who he saw, it's no wonder he felt like it wasn't helping.
The only info I have is from the video and it seems like the team picked one for him. Also I bet it would violate CBA if they cut him the moment he expressed his issues or chose not to use team assigned therapists. With the trade request, they got a ready excuse and they cut him after that, which is a shitty thing to do, but what can you expect from a hornets org that welcomed Miles Bridges back.
i mean, who was gonna trade for him lmao
Probably a bunch of teams, but they would have asked for a pick or some other compensation to get him off the Hornets hands.
Evidently not if teams haven’t signed him when he’s literally free
Could just be filler salary in a bigger deal
Id rather have this dude on the rockets than that BUM landale
I made a post saying this and got downvoted to hell lol.
Trust me, you don't. Not only is Landale a better basketball player than Kai Jones, but he also understands that he's a role player, when Kai thinks he should be one of the main scoring options. The guy looked lost in his third summer league, he's just not good at all.
Lol, I was not expecting fucking Harrison Concannon and the pigeon vizion podcast. shoutout Beanshooter
Charlotte is a shitty franchise this kid need help and they isolated him then cut him for wanting to hoop
He requested a trade
Video makes me feel better about Kai’s future. Seems like he’s admitting he was being immature and emotional. Some of those tweets had me worried about him tho lol
Sounds like he has infinity money
He actually seems much more put together than I thought. That social media stuff was haunting. Truth is, hes not talented enough to get away with making his own decisions. If he was he would be on a team right now. Hopefully he has learned that lesson and if he works his ass off and dominates the G league he can still be an NBA player within a year.
Y he look like that mf that plays Kang
Son got potential tho just need to keep it together
i missed his social media posts completely. What was this dude postingg?
I thought this clip was going to be so much more unhinged than it is lol
There's the full podcast on the hornets subreddit for anyone who wants to actually hear the rest instead of speculating. He has a lot more to say
I had already given up on bouknight but I really wanted Kai to put it all together he loved the team and city immediately but my boy was being wild and had no improvement.
This is most likely Mitch’s last year as our GM and overall he’s been great but that 2021 draft is gonna go down as one of the worse we’ve ever had.
*not fun fact: Mitch wanted to draft Donavan Mitchel but MJ saw Malik monk fall and wanted him because he dropped 40 in college
Man, I hope this dude can get his mind right, whether he stays in the league or not, this dude needed or needs help.
He forgot the part about throwing shade at his own teammates before requesting a trade.
Am I crazy to think some team might take a chance on him he's young athletic and 6"11 Id loved him on the rockets but then again I've never watched him so I'm going off his physicals
headcase with no self awareness and shit game. any team give this guy a contract is going to be wasted money
He must be pretty messed up for the Hornets of all teams to pull the plug on him so soon
Still one of the top 5 most TALENTED young bigs in the league. Whoever invests in Kai will see dividends.
this is such a thing, maybe for men but maybe for people in general. everybody pushing you into therapy, then the therapy doesn't work or isn't for you, you get the side eye for sure.
I mean I'd give him a second chance over these wife beaters and perverts that are still in the league.
Is that the homie Punpun on the podcast logo??
Hes worth a second tbh. Yes hes not great but if hes willing to work hard and earn his spot hes worth a second or 2
Men will literally request a trade rather than go to therapy
"I don't wanna go to therapy I just wanna meditate"
bruh... go to therapy. if your therapist isn't working then look for another one. it's a process, not a cure.
This makes me feel like we handled the situation appropriately at the very least. I do think we need better preventative measures in place so that situations like Kai don’t happen again. I know we got a mental health professional on the staff, maybe make compulsory appointments with the therapist for everyone on the team so it’s not as stigmatized. The scheduling and number of sessions for each player could vary as needed, but as long as everyone on the team is doing it people like Kai might not feel as weird about it.
Therapy only works when you choose it for yourself. You can't be forced into it. That being said, he probably did need therapy at the time.
"i'll figure it out myself, but they just keep bugging me, they just keep bugging me, and it builds up inside"
He looks so much more stable than those crazy social media posts from summer. Good for him.
