I was pretty active on Head-Fi at the time and snatched up this deal when someone posted it. I think the HD800 was still $1500 at the time.

Though that is probably not even my greatest "steal", which could be loosely seen at actually stealing. I bought the Fostex TH-900 from a relatively new online vendor, and they accidentally sent me 2 of them. I checked and legally in the US when a merchant sends you something you didn't order, you aren't required to send it back. I held onto it for a bit and that company never contacted me about it and I sold it new in box for $900. I guess they were too disorganized to notice.

I'm not all entirely lucky or wise with money. I bought the Hifiman Edition X on release for $1400 and similar tier headphones like Edition XS are less than $500 now. But I still like them enough for it to be a permanent part of my collection.

How did you find these? They’re not listed on Amazon at all.

I mean a lot has changed in 10 years. If you mean you can only find the HD800s now, those didn't even exist back then.

Managed to snag some Focal Elex headphones for $500. Coming from the Audio Technica ATH M50x's, these are mind blowing. Super happy with my purchase.

Picked up a pair of HD800's, a pair of HD600's and a basic Argon headphone amplifier at an auction for around 800 usd (8000 sek at the time).

HD 650 for 100€ (needed new pads and headband padding, though)

Sony MH755 for 2,50€

Denon AH-D2000 for £100 (one side w/ broken cup mounting pin, so needed new pin, washers, spring, and nuts)

I got myself a Sennheiser Momentum 4 SE (just an Amazon limited Copper color) for 39,800 yen (~266 USD) along with eppfun AK3040PLUS for 2,399 yen (~ 16 USD).

Maybe not a steal but still a good deal and a huge upgrade from Pixel Buds A-Series in the wireless domain. Dongle works great for PC/PS5/Switch along with iPad and Pixel 8 Pro when I fancy better codecs (aptX Adaptive support is still not great across devices but is a must for gaming; aptX HD/AAC/SBC latency is terrible).

Overall very satisfied with the purchase, they sound great. The only drawback is you can't disable ANC completely so I'm stuck with either ANC or Transparency mode - I hope they add a way to disable it completely in future updates...

In the wired domain I already own HiFiMan HE-500 which I love the sound profile of and OPPO PM-3 for more portable use cases. I drive them from AUDIOTRAK DR.DAC3 connected via SPDIF with FX-AUDIO- FX-D03J+ GAME edition.

I'm kind of addicted to my HE-500's and can't find anything that would match or beat them to my liking. I would appreciate something lighter and with better connectors - any suggestions?

A friend of mine used to own a hifi business. I bought a tube amp off him and like a decade later found a second one. I guess sometime over the years he gave me another (?). Sold it for $700. Found a sweet DAC too

I got a half-silent LCD-2 for £180 and fixed it up - it's a real favourite. It goes in my Burson Soloist 3XP which I managed to get for £300, with my Chord Hugo as DAC which I got for £700 in 2014
