MODERATORS

Even if I'm alteady happy with my current headphones, I always like to try some new stuff, even more if it's cheap and even more if it can be modded (the funniest part imo). Plus it will be my first planar pair (never tried planars, only dynamics and an e-stat).

What do you think about this headphones at this price? Have you ever had experiences with both V1 and V2 versions?

Peace✌🏻

[–] DavidWSam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You do, aliexpress

[–] Odd-Spend-8757@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I used discount codes, the originale price was 83

[–] uca1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Would these be a worthwhile upgrade over HD598s?

[–] omidez@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I could try to give you some feedback in the near future (couple of days maybe) as i'm currently waiting for a pair of Hifiman HE-x4 and i will compare them to my HD599. I think 598 and 599 sound about the same if i'm remembering correctly.

[–] maxlax02@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

599 and 598 should be the same.

He-4xx?

Not sure if they are comparable, but I found a side by side review:

I have both of these headphones. I think it is a side-grade. They both sound great and each does some things a little better than the other. For the price I think it’s definitely worth it to try out some planars though.

Also, both of these headphones sound so pleasant on a tube amp if you have one.

[–] ReptheNaysh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Absolutely not a sidegrade

[–] maxlax02@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t know, I stopped with those 2. They say there’s no β€œendgame” but I’m satisfied for now.

I’ve owned some expensive Grados before which are love it or hate it. I personally love Grados so maybe that’s where I’ll go next.

Most definitely!

Planars sound... different. They do some things better than dynamic headphones and struggle with others. My own step into the planar world was the Monolith M560, which I have enjoyed a lot, but they're not perfect. I think they HE400 is on about the same level, but not identical.

Is that Aliexpress? Hope you are buying from trustable seller.

[–] Odd-Spend-8757@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yes, It has 5 stars and it's the most popular seller for this headphone.

[–] Juan-punch_man@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Just got it, thanks for the deal alert 🫢🏻

[–] Lentewiet@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I bought this today for 87 Euros. How did you manage to reduce it to 63?

[–] acc134a@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I grabbed mine on Aliexpress during 11.11 for 55€ aswell.

Recieved them today and they work perfectly, 100% original, with serial number and QC pass card. The card says 11 of August 2023.

Its a gamble if they die after 15 days (we got 15 days free returns on Spain after recieving a package) but so far so good.

I might mod them and add a strap headband to improve comfort but for 55€ its a bargain.

[–] tangelopomelo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Holy that's a good deal. Seriously

[–] Odd-Spend-8757@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I see that you're a 560s owner too. How Is the 400se in comparison?

[–] qu1umu1us@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

99% that this headphones on Ali is FAKE/cuterfeit

[–] Ragnarocktrading@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I dunno, I got a pair of AKG K702 for $144 on Amazon. Thought that was a pretty damn good deal.

[–] Odd-Spend-8757@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Had those K702 (Austrian pair, which is kinda rare nowadays). Personally I think they have an unique sound, but not for everyone. They're spacious and detailed, but also very bass light, upper mids/treble focused and somewhat "distant" sounding. Most of the people will be happier with other headphones, but maybe a 5% of them would call this their favourite one.

[–] Ragnarocktrading@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah definitely they are going to be preference/use case specific. For my purposes I think they are probably the best choice - reference headphones for composing and mixing classical and orchestral score.

[–] Haddedam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This is ridiculous money for headphone that sounds as good as he400

[–] SpaceMountain_WOOO@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

While I love the sound Hifiman provides, durability is an issue for me. The headband on my edition x broke a bit after the warrant expired. RIP

Went to the DT1990 and they’re built like a tank.

[–] Odd-Spend-8757@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Tried DT1990 and they didn't impress me coming from a DT800 600 ohm.

[–] SpaceMountain_WOOO@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh, interesting. What did you like better in the DT 800?

Not arguing; am genuinely interested in your take.

[–] Odd-Spend-8757@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

More natural timbre and tonality, less grainy and boosted treble, it paired better with tubes. It has less bass extension but it feels more natural to my ears. I can't justify the price difference in any way, DT880 costs 144€ and DT1990 500€.

I think it is quite okay. I bought it for the same price from Shopee 2 years ago.

[–] WestOriginal2987@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I cannot find the exact store in ali. Can share me the link bro. Hahaha

Are they sold as clones or original ones?

[–] Astr0bull@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just got mine in from the 11.11 sale. A week later than my bud despite in the same city, cursed bundling different orders I spose.

I have the he-x4, which is what these are supposedly, and it seems to be the case. Primary difference beside the headband is the pads. The he-x4 used a microfelt/velour hybrid whereas the 400se v1 uses a mesh hybrid, and that's where the primary audio differences come from. I measured both on my crude measurement rig.

[–] Odd-Spend-8757@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thanks for the info😊 what measurement rig are you using?

[–] Astr0bull@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's a 3d printed mount and 3d printed ear with a calibrated linear mic attached with approximately the same ear volume. It does the job for me, and I'm not keen on spending hundreds to thousands more for a iec711 clone or whatever b&k everybody using these days. I may change out the ear one day for a silicon cast of my own ear, since that can be done pretty cheap.

[–] GameDev1909@alien.top 0 points 1 year ago

Can you convert that to real money so that we know what it is?
