Anyone had any cool experiences up north in the winter? Kinda gets boring having nice weather 12 months a year. Wondering if anyone had posted up and skied for months at a time or anything similar.

Interesting idea....supposed to be very, very cheap right now, from what I've heard. Might be something to look into...

Bansko Bulgaria for ski season

So funny you say that. I spent a few weeks there over the summer in the off season when I passed through Bulgaria. I was considering it as an option.

Do you have any sense of how expensive it is to stay during peak season? And maybe more importantly, whether there's a culture of solo travelers passing through? Would be super cool to stay in hostels and meet people then go skiing during the day. I stayed only in hotels when I was there, though.

For real?? Im Canadian and this sounds like a parallel reality, someone travelling to feel cold! lol anyways, go to Canada. It's cold guaranteed.

It may come as a shock, but the original post was asking for a bit more nuance than "Are there any countries in the world that get cold in the winter?" Lol.

I stayed in Chamonix, France for 2 months last winter. I would snowboard all morning and start work at 3pm. It is kinda expensive but very fun and you can get around using the bus.
