Believe it or not all of this was less than $950. Mainly used ebay and Facebook madket place for some great deals. Order those smaller thiner patch cables, so that's gonna get cleaned up well here soon.

What’s the wattage like on that puppy?

I need to learn a lot more about hotspots for server racks and equipment and where to get decent deals.

I initially wanted to build a desktop to serve as a starter homelab but I fear that it will get outgrown very quickly and feel that maybe finding a cheap rack and building in it incrementally might be a better way of doing things.

That is a pretty nice setup.

Looks dope. Why'd you connect the switch to your UDM using Ethernet instead of the SFP ports? Get that sweet 10gig connection.

[–] Sammyc64@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Those actually look like they are rack-mounted Raspberry Pis

[–] No_Inspection_5686@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Good eye, they are

[–] No_Inspection_5686@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It's a patch keystone panel and just used RJ45, USB, and HDMi keystones

[–] Deceptivejunk@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

What’s the full setup?

Very cool looking - what are the two screen at the top used for?

"We love detailed homelab builds, please put as much detail about your lab as possible and what you are using it for. Posts with just a few pictures and no context behind them will be removed. Detail can be posted as a reply to your own post."

I'll do a full write up when I get off work, thanks for the info

What are the specs of the gen8’s?

[–] no-fapping-way@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Ah a NetApp (Network Appliance) DS14 mk2 disk shelf. Now that’s some tech I’ve not seen in a long time.

What do you have it plugged into?

[–] therealSoasa@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Can't wait for "bring your lab to work day" 😉

[–] odinsdi@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

I'm digging those displays at the top and the "everything" passthru panel. Slick, buddy!

Getouttatown! $950! I mean that’s a pretty amazing setup.

The D71 is an awesome idea, which I am instantly stealing. Thanks a lot!

[–] EranStockdale@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That's dope! How much storage have you got there?

[–] No_Inspection_5686@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Right now only 80TBs but I'm gonna keep adding more soon

[–] jaceg_lmi@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Whatcha doing with dem dere Pi's? I like that 1U doohickey you have there for em. Also, I see lots of folks using the CyberPower 2U UPS like yours? Are they good? Must be probably? I've seen quite a few user posts using that or similar CyberPower units. UniFi goodness. This foto cured my OCD for the day, thank you very much :)

Fix your defective ram and hdd!

[–] microlate@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Did you measure how much this adds to monthly electricity cost? Do you mind sharing

[–] rocsci@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Care to share more details. Do you like the udm pro? I just ordered it. Any tips on getting the hardware from FB marketplace. I'm always skeptical about getting server hardware from there.

[–] Pvt-Snafu@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

That's a very decent setup. What are you running on it?

[–] SirLagz@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Whats that dual screen setup up top?
