I'm confused, the road via Port Alberni isn't paved all the way to nitinat either...

The power outage seems like the real issue.

"a completely dislodged front wheel" .. raises two questions:

  1. What was the state of the vehicle before it started down the road?
  2. What speed was it travelling at when the wheel "dislodged".

I'm guessing that the driver was poorly prepared to drive on outback roads, which is not unusual for pavement adventurers who use their massive truck to drive to the coffee shop to buy a soy latte with extra sprinkles.

I've driven on some horrendous roads around Australia and from what the photo shows, that road looks pretty reasonable.

Pictures don't show enough but I bet that bridge behind the truck likely had a big hole on the edge of it instead of a smooth ramp (as I've seen too often) and driver was probably flying along because road itself wasn't in bad shape in this section. When you got that pothole, one edge is square and will have no give.

This is just some unlucky sod being highlighted but the real problem is when a village is being detoured, our government and industry fight over jurisdiction for maintenance of said roads. Fucking sad it goes like this.
