I saw the OKC coach say "no comment" on the situation instead of outright denying it which really confuses me as to why?

I'm not up to date with the evidence but I'm seeing people here say the allegations are ridiculous and there's zero proof. So why the hush hush, what "legal reason" is there if this is all a bunch of nothing?

Because it doesnt matter what OKC thinks, all that matter is what the NBA and the player union decided to do after they get any sort of information.

Not enough information to deny or confirm

Because basketball is a business. If one of my coworkers started having these kinds of allegations thrown about his personal life, I am not going out on a limb for the dude.

You get a no comment and a reminder that he just a coworker

  1. bc it might be true
  2. told to keep quiet by ownership
  3. minding their own business

And most likely they don’t know. You think the coach knows if that girl is 17

I feel bad for coach diagonal

Mostly #2- standard advice is to not comment on a pending legal matter.

[–] agk927@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's a little different than most, for one, Giddey is very young, for 2, 16 is the legal age in Australia and I believe some states in America have it that way too. This is way different than a Karl Malone situation

[–] rumblegod@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nothing substantial yet. Better to ignore it till something comes up then people will talk

[–] limark@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because it won't matter. The public perceives him as guilty until proven innocent and any legal advisor or social media specialist would tell him to shut up and not stir up any unnecessary drama.

This is very much a situation where he's better off staying quiet until it's sorted out.

do you think he got tricked into posing for those photos or what

Because there will be follow up questions on his comment, unless he says no comment

[–] Weary-Amoeba1808@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Because he probably did it, but there’s no actual legal recourse. I’m assuming they’re just trying to save public perception because people are jumping to the conclusion that Giddey is like Karl Malone.

It’s not like he impregnated a 13 year old. He just turned 21 and if the girl is around 16/17, he’s protected not only by the Oklahoma age of consent, but also any Romeo and Juliet law that the state may have.

These kinds of relationships happen literally all the time. HS seniors who start dating a HS freshman and try to continue their relationship post grad. The difference is that Giddey is famous and wealthy.

Is it right or wrong? That’s not for me to decide but if what is alleged actually happened, I don’t think any laws were broken.

Right now there isn’t a lot of information to see if it’s true or not. With due time and more information gathered I’m sure OKC will make the correct decision on sticking by/getting rid of Giddey. If they defend him now and it’s all just rumours all they will do is bring more attention to it, if they do defend him and it’s true it will be a terrible look for OKC.

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Seriously? Because they're gathering the facts to see what actually happened before making any further statements.

[–] jumboponcho@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Legal reasons and I doubt they truly know. They’re coworkers at the end of the day, I’m sure they have their own friends and family to worry about

[–] PennyG@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

How can you deny something if you don’t know whether it is true or not?

[–] Turbulent_Elk_3676@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I haven’t seen many people saying the allegations are ridiculous and there’s zero proof. Most people are being reasonable and saying it doesn’t look good for Giddey but to let the investigation by the NBA and legal authorities take place. Why are so me people so quick to want to find everything at once and come to conclusions already.

[–] Fyretorsomonkey@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

More often than not. When confronted with any legal issue your best option is to not say anything at all. Slip up and say one thing that is provably false, even if it has nothing to do with the exact accusations, can be used to discredit your side of things. " If he lied about this, what else did he lie about?" May not seem like the best optics to say nothing but anything you say on record is evidence if used right.

[–] ComfortableSell6046@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I see how this post is going. There is a picture of giddy with this girl in a bathroom. He definitely has his shirt off. Hard to see how that can be twisted into something innocent. The downvotes for fair comments is pretty revealing to what is going on here because these allegations have at least some evidence of possibly being true

[–] Critical-Adhole@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It likely is true but they are trying to find out if:

  1. It can actually be proven
  2. If anyone is going to push for charges

If not, it’ll be swept under the rug

[–] lsalomx@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Because he did it lmao

[–] PJCR1916@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s just better for everyone to not say anything because no one really knows whether he is guilty or not. Yeah they’re teammates but I’m sure these guys don’t know if this stuff is true or not

[–] Advanced-Ad-8696@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Because that would be stupid whether he's innocent or guilty. You're welcome.

[–] AaronRodgersToe@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Did you also see the coach say that the team is comfortable letting him play with what they know about the situation? That’s why they aren’t out right denying it. There’s nothing to deny.

[–] milton1124@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nobody has any legal incentive to comment on it even if it likely happened. You won’t hear anything different until there are charges brought against him.

If the alleged victim or her family don’t seek out charges, it’s doubtful anything will ever come of this. It’s unlikely the girl wants it as an outcome and there’s plenty of reason why a family wouldn’t want to subject their daughter to even more public scrutiny given our culture’s ruthless disregard for the wellbeing of victims, especially in a situation like this where it seems she wanted this alleged crime to take place regardless of her ability to legally consent.

[–] prettyflyforahentai@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Because it isn't reddit where someone is guilty/innocent right away.

[–] _checkpickerupper@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Seems relevant that they are also paying Kevin Porter Jr right now
