It is so annoying. It is like everyone is after easy money by just creating OpenAI wrappers. I was just going through PH and it feels like you cannot release an app if it does not include AI in its name. So frustrating.

What are your thoughts on that?

let it pass I guess. Back then it was crypto and its the same wave

[–] KaiN_SC@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Thats true but almost all crypto projects are a scam or at best missleading. Bitcoin should not be even on the same list with all the other coins.

Few months ago it was people selling monkey jpegs, now it's the low effort generative AI apps. Nonsense comes and goes, quality products always remain in fashion. Focus on building your own thing and focus on quality.

I agree with what you said, but just a heads up, those monkey jpegs are still selling and doing crazy volume daily.

[–] Recent-Green4251@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

not an nearly the volume they were this time last year, they’ve taken a big hit this year

[–] localguideseo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

True, but at $10M/week it's still pretty bonkers.

I am a little bit out of loop with this one. What's a monkey jpegs? Are you talking about Monkey NFTS?

AI still sellable? I thought this wave was already passed

[–] dicart99@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

it is the trend now

a pit of time and everything back okay.

Start marketing no-AI tools

I feel what you feel, but the only way to get over it is to go through it. I would recommend biting your lips for a few weeks and releasing as many apps as you can; you will learn a ton and start seeing the world differently. There's nothing I can say to convince you of that, unless you try it yourself.

Also, I'd recommend dropping at one of the AI Tinkerers meetups (tinkerer dot ai) , it really helped me to see the AI world through other people's eyes and to see what gets them excited. You don't have to say anything or present anything, but listening to others will help you be more excited, I promise.

idk if the mods will read this but I'd strongly support a moratorium on AI posts

[–] Captain-Random-6001@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It's just a trend. It will die down with time. Some of the apps are actually quite useful. You just have to filter through the noise.

[–] DWLeveller@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wait until the API goes down again - thousands of apps will be offline!

[–] wind_dude@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I haven’t seen too many AI apps on pornhub, but I use an ad blocker.

But stop spending time on producthunt.

[–] script_ing@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I agree! It's the most annoying thing, especially when it's just a ChatGPT wrapper that they made in a few hours. I'm personally glad that OpenAI kills all those with updates.

We are all tired :).

People probably said the same thing about SaaS (as opposed to physical products) several years ago.

Products don't have to be high effort for there to be product-market fit.

[–] harshalachavan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Don’t worry — Open AI will eat all those apps as it starts copying the wrapped ones into in-built features. It’s the same old story with app and play store.

[–] HobblingCobbler@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'm with you. Im over here still chugging away at the same idea. Meanwhile so many others are slamming out 4 MVPs a month, and most of them are nonsense.

[–] stage_directions@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Welcome to the world of opportunistic cash grabs and shameless hucksterism.

You can’t change it. Only your reaction to it.

There are all sorts of businesses, there are big picture VC-fundable businesses that exit via IPOs and there are lifestyle businesses that exit via acquisitions or turn into family businesses.

For AI wrapper apps the model seems to be to exit via an early sale to someone less hands-on with tech, who wants to run a business at what they see is the cutting edge but cannot get it off the ground. It will work until there are buyers who feel they can add their marketing skills to the mix, grow MRR and make a bigger exit to another buyer down the line.

I completely agree about how annoying it is, but look at the bright side, one day people will realize how useless these apps are and that's when non AI apps will become the trend once again.
