MODERATORS

There are plenty of great impact players who are relatively unknown, but underrated stars tend to be actually great players who are well known but maligned for 1-2 perceived deficiencies.

To be clear, I’m not talking about the best player who is generally underrated, but the star that has the biggest gulf between their ability and public perception of their ability. 4-5 years ago I would’ve said Harden and Draymond.

My candidates for most underrated today:

  1. Embiid

  2. Trae Young

  3. Gobert

In all cases, one or more apparent shortcomings have led folks to underrate their enormous impact: Embiid’s lack of playoff success, Trae’s defense, and Gobert’s offense

i think people have rated Trae pretty well, imo

if anything, i think he’s been a bit overrated

Trae seems to be ranked between 25th and 30th by most media lists right now so I'd definitely say he's a strong candidate for this lol

I've seen lists with Darius Garland above him somehow

Trae Young had record low efficiency last year and then he started off with record bad shooting this year and so people call him an inefficient shot chucker. But even when his efficiency was bad he was still running one of the top offences in the league last year, and this year he seems to have gotten even better at passing and has stepped up majorly on the defensive end.

I’m predicting this will be Traes best season so far.

Embiid underrated? Get the fuck outta here. There is nobody more OVERRATED than the flopping foul merchant.

The answer is Jokic.

Probably Embiid, second best player in the league and this sub acts like he's 8th or something because he had to deal with Doc Rivers' dumb ass for most of his best years

Everyone still thinks Devin Booker is a bad defender, when he is actually a very good defender. On top of being one of the best facilitators in the league as well. Most non Booker fans were saying Beal was going to be the point guard in this offense, but those who have been watching him from the beginning knew the guy is a top tier floor general. Currently averaging about 9 assists per game.

It’s got to be the Pleiades- aka the 7 sisters.

Lmao Embiid underrated by who? Trae and Rudy aren't underrated at all either.

KAT -- 50/40/90 and 22/9 playing a lot of minutes with Rudy. Solid defense so far this year. He didn't miss many games at all until a couple stints with Covid and then the leg injury last year, but apparently he's injury prone? He is a top offensive talent without losing anything on defense.
