The Grizzlies went on an 11-3 run coming out of this timeout, so I think he succeeded in firing them up to some extent. But it was too little, too late.

any nba team with this many injured starters would be in the same predicament. like wth?

[–] WembyandTheWolves@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t think I’ve seen a single player sink a contender more than Ja Morant. Maybe Ron Artest during the Malice at the Palace is comparable but that was a single moment of insanity. Ja’s fuckup was over multiple chances. It’s nuts how he just shit last year and this year away. Even with the injuries, Ja would likely have been able to keep them afloat but they’re almost too far behind already. I would be so furious that if I was a Grizz fan. You only get so many chances to be a true contender.

Man Dillon was the MVP of this team

Man, I thought this team was better without Ja according to /r/nba

Why is Derrick Rose not bringing a mentality that influences these guys.

[–] rsayegh7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That's my tank commander, he's finally amongst his peers. 😤

[–] BrandinPodziemski@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Celtics always trading guys that have been loyal to them to get next big star. Avery Bradley , IT, smart, grant will….

[–] aomen3@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

this man is not used to losing.

[–] LACIRCA2044@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If anyone didn’t believe in the basketball gods or karma this Grizzlies team is proving them totally wrong

From the comments in here, I don’t think people realize how injured the Grizzlies are on top of not having Ja.

Remember last year when they had Ja but lost Steven Adams and lost 6 out of 7?

Well yeah they’re missing him, his backup Xavier Tillman, Brandon Clarke, Luke Kennard, and Marcus Smart.

3 starters and 3 backups. 6 of their top 10.

Adams is an elite box out player and screener but something is fundamentally wrong when he is that important

Boston sent his ass to Azkaban 😭

[–] arebee20@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Remember just last year how to grizz played way better without Ja and just one year later everything is switched and it’s mainly the same team. So weird.

[–] Dokutah_Dokutah@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They lost a lot of their team to injuries. They are also missing Dillon who actually was a ready and willing defender.

[–] SaintMotel6@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Honestly I hate when guys do this. If you’re a real leader then lead by example. If you’re on a shit team and you’re playing like shit, then the yelling just comes across like passing the buck to the people around you.

[–] Impressive_Serve_416@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I like Smart but the fact is he just isn’t good enough to be treating other guys like this.

I guarantee if someone else calls him out on his bullshit late game shot attempts like this he freaks the fuck out.

[–] YoungFlexibleShawty@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Doesn't matter sometimes though, leadership isn't always going to show up in the stat sheet. These young guys need a guy like this to light a fire sometimes.

[–] itsahmemario@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean are any of them as successful as he is? They can argue more talented but none of them have gone to the heights Marcus Smart has. It may not be HOF but none of them, not even Ja Morant, has gotten as far Marcus Smart.

You are 100% correct.

[–] tsunamisurfer35@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As a C's fan (and Smart was my favourite Celtic) it saddens me to see him struggle, and to be on a listless team. Maybe things will change when Ja comes back, but that is a deep hole to come out of.

Marcus gives everything and to see others not doing the same must be frustrating for him.

Hope he comes back to the Cs.

The season is already over

It's about setting a culture for next season.

They should get rid of JJJ for a haul

He's a KAT type player

Not a winner

Reminds me of when Festus Ezeli tried to give the blazers a motivational halftime speech and CJ McCollum told him to shut his street clothes wearing ass up.

[–] luvvdmycat@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Glad Marcus ain't on my team no more.

Wannabe leader, attention seeker, drama queen.

He found his level in Memphis.

[–] StarryScans@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Trade him to Bucks please, end his suffering.

[–] chomcham@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What happen to "we alright in the west". Hopefully Steven Adams realizes how trash the grizzlies are and leaves. I would not want to be associated with a team that top player has been suspended twice.

[–] SonnyLove@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

"Mother fuckers it's not that hard! If a guy makes contact with you, no matter how small, you need to throw your entire body into the floor like you got shot with a .50 caliber rifle! Don't forget to twist your face up like you just suffered a career ending injury. How many times do I have to show you guys this!"

[–] james_randolph@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I feel for him. He’s a baller, DPOY, and got heart. I wanted him to stay in Boston but I damn sure didn’t want him to be in Memphis if he was going to be moved. That team is just too young and doesn’t get it but hopefully he can help change that and they can have some hope of better nights when Ja comes back.

[–] LoveIslandFansRawk@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Albeit a weak one, the Grizz were the #2 seed in the West last season, just saying

You’d think with the two most recent DPOYs they’d get some stops 🤔

[–] Spyce@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m a big fan of Marcus from his Oklahoma State days but damn he’s on a bad team now and he never getting a ring

[–] YeBobbumMann@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As much as I didn't like Marcus Smart on the Celtics, his passion for the game can not be denied. Dude's probably suffering in Memphis with these bums.

[–] SuperKingAir@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Basketball is like sumo wrestling for tall ppl. Except, you can actually follow a regiment to get sumobese, can’t really do much abt your height.

[–] MisterNiblet@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Someone show Marcus “Walking in Memphis” it’ll make his day better. (Massive sarcasm I actually hate that song so much)

[–] luvvdmycat@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Marcus is flopping in Memphis.

[–] AdebayoStan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

"I'm not here to babysit"

lmao

[–] the_web_dev@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Without Morant it’s like the Grizzlies just aren’t gunslingers anymore

[–] sonQUAALUDE@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

breaks my heart man. sent our loyalest bro to purgatory.

[–] Wallyworld77@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Memphis should just complete the circle and trade Smart to Milwaukee. He would start day one.
