Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

It's called "foreshadowing", right?

Kirk was not a good man, but he, like any other, deserved a proper trial for his evil deeds, so I don't celebrate. I do not cry for him either, especially that he died trying to defend the very thing that killed him. This is not a victory in itself, some of you might be in real danger - you need to organize your community and defend, stand up for each other. Trump already escalated violenceas much as he could, and society is running fast to catch up

In a just world he would have been shut down the moment he started to promote his hateful ideology.

Short of that I will celebrate horrible people no longer existing however it happens because their absence is a net benefit. Especially if they die to the thing they were promoting.

Fair, I just straight up believe this death doesn't really matter, like what are they gonna do that they didn't already try. And on the opposite side, Kirk was not special - all he had was connenctions, loyalty to the grift and media training - that sounds easy to replace, and maybe his successor won't be as mediocre of a speaker. It's just a clear visual point for the historians to mark when tension popped

If celebrating keeps morale high I don't see much harm in it. Sure, in a just world he would have gotten a trial, and sure, it won't change anything, but you gotta take what you can get.

Exactly. The administration already declared war on Chicago and are calling it something something Midway after a WWII battle.

There are other comparable conservative shills already, and they are all as mediocre or worse speakers.

Some people make the world better when they leave it.

i dont celebrate his death, in a better world there wouldnt be this many shootings in the US, it should be a rarity if at all rather than something people have just sort of become numb to. The post is more meant to illustrate the irony of it his statements and his eventual demise but Im not of the opinion that people should just be shot even if i do think they are bad people.

Yeah, I get it. Rn tho am so tired of the topic, a man is dead and that's it, everything to be said has already been said - at this point it's more akin to distraction from the fact project 2025 people are gonna work even harder to strip you of your rights (which they already attempted)

It really backfired on him.
