"right but to reiterate my question, why was Moses Moody benched in the 4th quarter"
I'm getting super annoyed with Kerr, moody balled out in the short time he saw last night, and deserved to finish the game...hell Klay was wide open on the last shot and Steph didn't want to give him the ball
Just watch the fiba tournament and you'll get your answer
Steve Kerr is basically Darvin Ham.
Moses was fantastic, he is special
Only played 13 minutes the whole game
Not much of an actual justification here from Steve.
The coach and ownership are just hostages to nostalgia. They would rather see Clay and Green on the floor than actually win games.
Dray is still great don’t bundle him up with washed Klay
Danny Ainge talking about how the Celtics should've blown it up in the early 90s when Bird was toast is a lot harder said than done, but he's right. Look what he was able to do by trading KG and Pierce - he turned it into a whole new era with Tatum and Brown.
Not everybody can do it and it does hurt relationships.
I mean the player who they would have built around in the 90s died, twice
Len Bias and who else?
To be devils advocate, when you've got an aging core and a player run league like NBA, it puts coaches in a difficult position when it comes to prioritizing games vs players getting their looks. I don't see the Warriors winning the title with Moody as the second option so maybe they think the problem will solve itself in the offseason when they can let Klay walk and try to retool
We literally can’t retool because of the luxury tax restriction. The only way we get a return on Klays bloated ass contract is if we trade him now
I don't see the Warriors winning the title with Moody as the second option
Definitely not. But Kerr's been banking on 2nd option by committee like back in 2022 when Poole/Wiggins/Klay took turns being that 2nd/3rd options. In that vein he should've left Moody on the floor when he had it going as the 2nd option instead of benching him.
Their window will be firmly closed next season due to salary cap and age. If they want to contend then a move needs to be made this year. This is the last season I think they can take a swing at the title.
Draymond is still productive it’s just klay hurting them.
His play is productive but his behavior impacts losing as much as his play impacts winning. And the scales not going to tip back in GSWs favor as time goes on.
I get the challenge with benching Klay - Moses still does most of his damage from the corner and/or off secondary actions that are created by the defense responding to the plays the warriors run for Steph and Klay, and if you bench Klay then you basically need to go to Wiggins' iso's or post-ups a lot more as your primary action.... not necessarily a recipe for success.
But I just don't understand why Kerr would ever leave Moody out of the rotation to start a game. He hits shots, plays pretty hard on defense, generally knows where the ball should go on offense when it finds him.
Moody is easily a rotation player in the NBA and he's still super young and will get better - you have to play him.
What I don’t understand is why everyone is mad about Klay being in last night. Klay had a pretty good game and with Draymond back, they could’ve gone small and have Moody in with the starters minus Looney (who did not have a great game last night and sold at the line too late)
Draymond should’ve been sat down to close that game, he gave it away.
It's just all so tiresome given the recent Ls and seeing Moody keeping us in the game that we were up 24 and then is subbed off. We then proceed to collapse in the most hilarious fashion, you could only laugh at the ending.
It's just tiresome m8
A lot of us were mad because Klay had cooled off and started to miss shots/make mistakes and Kerr was bringing in wiggins for defense so you can't have Steph, Moody, Klay out there in crunch time, but benching a higher energy player who is red hot in a moment like that probably did them in.
Moody is not some proven player and there's a decent chance he would've missed his next two shots or something, but it's still a decision you typically just don't make in those situations unless you have some prime all star instead of Klay.
Not to mention a huge confidence hit to the young guys. Kuminga got no run last year, podz got 0 minutes this game, then you have Moody playing good D and hitting every shot and he still gets taken out? I'd feel pretty defeated knowing that's my future on this team.
Facts bro.
You start to realize theres huge leash for the guys with tenure and a lot of shit gets looked over and it can kill your drive when you don’t get the benefit as the next man up when they aren’t even performing.
And people wonder why wiseman didn't develop. Just shitty coaching and privilege culture.
Wiseman is another symptom of this but let’s be real - he’s not going to develop in any situation.
Klay was bad in the second half, but I do agree Moody should’ve stayed instead of Looney last night
Overrated coach. Has only won weak playoff runs with much more talent than the opposition.
Breaking news: Coaches win when their team is better than the other team
So basically Klay/Wiggins is a better defensive duo against Fox than Wiggins/Moody ? Okay...
Klay had some good defensive plays sandwiched between the most low-effort, zero IQ defense you’ll ever see
He's playing too many minutes. He had a fantastic first half but is gassed in the second half. 35 minutes is way too much for how old he is with his injury history.
Remember it's Fox and the Kings. That happens to everyone.
Lowkey nobody talking about Podziemski being DNP'd after Kerr said he was gonna play every game 2 weeks ago lol.
why low key and not high key
multiple keys, really. a sonata, even.
Gotta get those CoJo minutes when you can!
CoJo was actually pretty decent last night.
Dude almost had a revenge game against us lol.
Yea the warriors are done.
Free Steph Curry.
Dubs had a good run.
There was a wild Sasha vs. Moody run there with about 6 minutes to go. Sasha finished the game for us and Moody was just never seen again. We won that game on a prayer but it shouldn’t have come to that.
So here's my unpopular take:
Kerr won't jeopardize his relationship with Klay for someone like Moody, who, despite occasional flashes of talent, is still refining his skills and excelling only in brief bursts. Coaches frequently emphasize the importance of providing prospects opportunities, but sustained performance is crucial for earning a permanent spot. As long as Moody consistently delivers on the court, Kerr will gradually expand his playing time, ultimately preparing him for a more prominent role. However, until that moment arrives, Klay will remain the starter and the finisher despite his struggles.
