Hi everyone! I'm launching my side project and unlike my previous projects, I want to share my progress publicly. My first step is to share my launch strategy.

Here's what i'm doing for the first few days. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!

Plan

  1. Scrappy demo video
  2. Show HN
  3. Reddit
  4. Twitter
  5. Backlinks
  6. Ads

Scrappy Demo Video: I've created a short video showcasing the app's capabilities without any direct promotion. Keep it super simple. I will use that video when posting on Twitter.

Show HN: In the past, my projects didn't gain much traction with HN, but I've seen some valuable traffic come through even with a few upvotes.

Reddit: I'll be sharing insights on r/OpenAI and r/OpenAIDev about building my product with the GPT-4 Vision API.

Twitter: My project was inspired by 2 videos sharing new capabilities with the new openai vision API. I will mention those creators hoping to get more reach.

Backlinks: I own multiple websites getting hundreds of unique daily visitors. I adding backlinks in the footer and announcement banner on all of them.

Facebook Ads: I will spend $20/day on Facebook Ads just to an get idea on my cost to acquire a user.

Why I'm Skipping Product Hunt (PH): Given my limited reach and the challenges of breaking through on PH, I'm holding off on this platform for now. I will probably still post on PH later to get their SEO backlink.

That's it!What else do you think I could do to enhance my launch? Any feedback or experiences you'd like to share would be immensely helpful!

What’s your plan with Facebook Ads exactly? Needs to be more thought out than just spending $20 a day.

Questions you need to answer:

What’s the ad and what’s the hook? Just a general ad about your product is likely going to flop.

Where are you driving the traffic? If it’s to your home page, don’t expect much results, need a dedicated LP that matches the offer in your ad. If your B2B, CTA should be to book a demo, if you’re B2C, maybe a signup discount or some free trial.

Do you have your tracking setup properly? Not feeding conversion data back to Facebook is only going to make things worse. Ideally you set up the conversion API as opposed to the pixel.

What’s your audience? No idea what your product is, but rare that it’s actually applicable to everyone.

And also, it’ll probably take you 5-10 different Ads to find an angle and ad creative that actually works and converts.
