The industry wants senior engineers but isn’t willing to put in the work to make entry level engineers into senior. If you are considering a comp sci degree, don’t bother. Like the article says, train with cheaper skill-based courses. You may hate AI or not see the value, but if you want to survive in the tech field now, you have to learn how to harness AI tools (and that doesn’t mean writing prompts).

This is the state of tech now. The capitalists once again have managed to suck all of the air and fun out of the room so that they can go live on some compound when things inevitably go to shit because of their irresponsible behavior.

This is the truth. You can still do it, but it sucks so much more now compared to 10 years ago, and continues to trend down. The positive is that the AI hype is normalizing, with the real limitations kicking in. Still, I'm planning my tech exit. Trying to figure out where I need to be so I can go do something else. Not to mention corporate life is draining me

Programming in particular, though fun, has always been kind of a piece part job. Aparently easily out sourced, and now easily automated. I say aparently because out sourcing and off-shoring turned out not to be that easy. We are now going to find out about AI.

One reason I did not go into IT 40 years ago was this reason. I went into the physical sciences and engineering and had a fine career. I was wrong then about IT it turned out. Who knows now.

Unemployment for college graduates averaged 5.3% in Q2 2025, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Underemployment held steady at a whopping 41%.

There's no missing decimal point there. Hope the First National Bank of Mom has generous lending terms.

Why would you want to participate in the enslavement of humanity anyway ?
This career is the devouring of your fellow man.
Even a minimum wage that, if anything allows you to live and at least does not compound the suffering of others is more honourable that tightening nose around the neck of your brothers.
