On July 30th, 2023 the first day of my vacation in 4 years. I slipped on the stairs while going down to my mancave and gave myself two traumatic brain injuries. One on the left and right side of my brain. They performed emergency brain surgery and removed a section of my skull on the right side about 7 inches long and 4 inches wide. They also drilled a hole in the left side of my skull to stop the brain bleed on that side.

After 3 weeks in the hospital I was released to go home with a very large dent in the right side of my head. I had to wear a helmet for months to protect my brain just below the skin.

On November 6th, 2023 I went in for surgery to have the section of skull replaced. A step closer to normal but not quite because I had 157 sutures in my head now.

On November 27th, 2023 I had all the sutures removed and finally had a full skull with no stitches.

Today I was able to listen to my headphones for the first time in 4 months. The experience was spiritual. I literally cried from joy and pleasure. The beauty of the music and the realization that the healing process is moving along was euphoric.

I don't recommend smashing your head in to anyone but I think taking a break from your headphones to truly understand how amazing they are is an experience I think is worth waiting for. It is so easy to become bored or complacent with your gear and a short break can really open your eyes to enjoying what you have in a new way.

Writing this down right now:

While I’m not going to severely injure myself to take a break from my headphones, I highly recommend this. Coming back to certain gear after some time off feels incredible. Also, all the best on your recovery man, it sounds rough.

Dayum. There have been times I haven't used my headphones for a week or so and even that is like a breath of fresh air just putting them on and playing some music again.

Cheers on your recovery mate!

Same happend to me when I had ear infection. I couldn’t use any kind of headphones for about 3 months (I normally use earbuds).

Last year I was in a car accident and experienced whiplash and my neck hurt. Because audiophile headphones are so heavy, I just didn't even try them for around 2 months until all my neck pain went away.

It in an interesting point to take a break from audio devices because we get used to them and lose their magic. I barely use my Arya anymore, when I got my DCA Closed X I believed they were Arya quality, just as good. I decided to listen to them for a while, different situation, different genres to write a review. I was going to say they are just as good as Arya, so I decided I should compare them side by side, and it turns out the Arya are clearly better, no competition. Similar with my AKG headphones, they are open back dynamic headphones, and every time I am shocked with how good the bass is.

You know, I've been having an awful past week but it doesn't seem all that bad in comparison lol

Jokes aside, I'm glad to see that a fellow audio appreciator is back on the road to good sound. Cheers mate

Holy shit. I'm glad to hear you're doing better, but hearing these types of stories really reminds me to be mindful and treasure the days when everything is good.

Oh man I hope you're really fully recovered.

Usually I don't know use of my headphones, but when I use it I enjoy them.

Enjoy your headphones get someone with better quality some preamps or dacs, anyway, everything that make you happy and allows you to enjoy your music.

Greetings.

Sorry to hear that. I am a neurosurgeon so I can kind of relate through what you've been through... Glad that you've mostly recovered.

Well after reading this, I now have a phobia of stairs.

Glad to hear you are doing good now. That's quite a life changing experience from one fall. I probably will actually be thinking about this going up and down stairs now lol.

After reading this, I'm really digging my unbroken head. I hope that was on the NHS!

Glad you made a full recovery! Thanks for reminding me to not take the things we have for granted, and to try to enjoy every day to the fullest.

Wow. What a road you've been down. I'm glad that you're good now. It's stories like this that makes you think about what really is important.

[–] namesdevil3000@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m glad you were alright and are on the road to recovery. Wishing all the best!

Man it’s moments like this when you’ve been away from them or whatever reason you haven’t been able to experience them. It’s a breath of fresh air. Omg the panic when picking which ones to use first
