[–] TobyHalpert@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

We are gonna see some shit at Goodison if they get another 10. That Goodison dog will be trained to bite Premier League executives.

[–] crookedparadigm@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That poor dog looks like it has zero desire to be where it is.

[–] Ishdalar@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

At this point, the Everton board may have this energy

[–] jeevesyboi@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

All clubs have to submit their accounts by the end of December. If they are again over the loss threshold, Everton will receive another punishment. It was confirmed that a new breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules should be dealt with by the end of May.

[–] Chuck_Morris_SE@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I very much doubt it considering we haven't spent fuck all.

[–] TheGoldenPineapples@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Seems like there will be a bit of a fire sale at Everton in January then, if things haven't cleared up by then.

[–] mohankohan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (5 children)

If club are found to have breached spending rules in next set of accounts, action will be taken by end of May under changes brought in to speed up process

Ouch, that's a deadly one-two punch.

[–] Krillin113@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I mean if you already were being investigated and you broke the same rules again you’re a fucking dumbass beyond measure.

Shitty situation for the fans though

[–] zzonked7@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It's not as clear cut as that because it's not as simple as having budget of £105m and spending £124.5m, though that's the final tally. They lost far more than £124.5m over 3 seasons, they lost closer to £370m but were allowed to write some of it off per the rules.

My understanding is that their argument is twofold, 1) They think they should have been able to write off more of the losses and 2) There were good reasons that they had reduced income that tipped them over (covid, no transfer fee for Sigurdsson and unexpectedly poor results in the league).

The difficulty is a team can invest with an expectation that it will return better results and money, but football is unpredictable and if it doesn't work out then you can get punished like this. You could definitely argue they acted recklessly and took an unacceptable risk, but it's not just outright stupidity.

It's a 3 year rolling loss tally, if they get punished again then it's likely partly the same mistake as last time, not a fresh one.

Given that the accounts are over a three year period it's more like being penalized twice for screwing up the same year.

[–] cherlin@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They can fuck over everton immediately, but man city may not see anything for 2+ years? Wtf is this?

[–] Kevgongiveit2ya@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It’s been 5 years. Investigation was made public in 2018

[–] a_lumberjack@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The trick is to be massively corrupt in a way that takes fucking forever to bring to trial. To get super advanced, you need to be under active indictments in four different cities under four completely different categories of law.

[–] fedrats@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

lol at the EPL eyeing the relegation line and docking whatever points it takes to send them down,

[–] pork_chop_expressss@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yet Man City has taken a few years and won't see action, if there is any, until 2024/25 most likely.

[–] Mozezz@alien.top 0 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Im struggling to think how exactly we’d have fucked up the finances since when we got done

We’ve not really spent any money on transfers without selling players and our wages have drastically dropped

Sounds abit clickbaity to me tbh

[–] SpeechesToScreeches@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah it's not a 'we suspect they might have broken the rules again so will be punished again', just a 'Everton still have to play by the same rules despite already being punished for breaking them before', it's a non story

[–] PM_ME_VIRGIL_PICS@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Joyce usually isn’t the clickbaity type

[–] jeevesyboi@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Unlikely considering they sold Gordon and so have made a transfer profit the last couple of seasons.

TL;DR: Everton might face another points deduction due to a new breach of Premier League financial rules. The original deduction was related to overspending on loans for their stadium. Despite protests from fans and accusations of regulatory malpractice, the Premier League insists the process was fair and based on agreed-upon principles.

  • Everton faces the possibility of another points deduction for breaching financial rules.
  • The original deduction was linked to overspending on loans for their new stadium.
  • Everton is submitting accounts for the 2022-23 season earlier due to new regulations expediting straightforward breaches.
  • Concerns arise that Everton might be close to breaching financial rules again with the same calculation system.
  • Fans protested the original ruling, and accusations of regulatory malpractice were made by Everton's season-ticket holder, Manchester's mayor.
  • The Premier League, through Chairwoman Alison Brittain, refutes claims of malpractice, stating that clubs, including Everton, agreed in 2020 not to have a fixed tariff for sanctions.
  • The Premier League proposed a sanction, but the independent commission dismissed it, highlighting the discretionary nature of sanctions.
  • Brittain rejects the accusation that the Premier League is using Everton's case to prove self-regulation before an independent football regulator arrives.
[–] DougalChips@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Isn't this the same for all Clubs though? Like, all PL clubs have to submit at the end of December and if any breach they get a points deduction?

[–] BoosterGoldGL@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yes, but these poor journalists need clicks damn it.

[–] dogefc@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I know it’s not just down to spending on players but we’ve literally had to sell to buy these last few years and have one of the lowest net spends in the league.

I just don’t see how we’re the only team to break the rules

[–] jeevesyboi@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Its largely due to your wage bill.

You're the club that spends the highest percentage of your revenue on wages. Others are up there too but you're up there the year before and the year before that and the year before that

[–] DefLoathe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

How the fuck have City and Chelsea escaped punishment but not Everton?

[–] TheOneKane@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ah, it's the double tap.

[–] circa285@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Okay, why is it that Everton can be hit so swiftly while City and Chelsea have been allowed to cheat year after year without consequence?

[–] bringbackcricket@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Everton’s also wasn’t that quick, which is the entire point of the article above.

The rules have been changed (rightly in my opinion) so that any overspending is punished the season that it is published in the accounts now. Previously that would rumble over multiple seasons, which is why Everton’s existing deduction is related to their accounts from previous seasons, at the expense of the teams who went down those years.

[–] yogi1090@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Tbh the future for PL clubs lie with very rich and politically Strong owners who can beat the system with money/lawyers/corruption.

Any club not doing this will eventually end up being either a lower mid table club who is in risk of relegation in most seasons or will end up getting relegated to lower leagues.

[–] Guevarra25@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Just go into administration Everton and get one point back

[–] SergeantHAMM@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I’m actually pissed I laughed at this

[–] -zimms-@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

"We've altered the table, pray we don't alter it any further."

[–] GhostRiders@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

People need to stop saying "What about Man City or Chelsea" because your just making yourselves look stupid.

Everton are guilty of breaching FFP, end off of discussion.

They admitted to the Independent Commission that they were guilty of breaching FFP, Everton were trying to justify why they did and the Commission judged they were full of shite and gave them a 10 point penalty.

This case hasn't just happened, it's been going for years.

The PL were working with Everton to help them avoid breaching FFP yet Everton still went ahead and over spent.

As for Chelsea and City, their cases are in orders of magnitude more complex.

Man City have denied any wrong doing and are using their virtually unlimited funds to throw lawyers to contest every single aspect of the PL case against them.

[–] Long-Island-Iced-Tea@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Is relegation a realistic scenario?

[–] sarbanharble@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Sooooo City gets delayed but Everton gets the accelerated treatment. Seems fair.

[–] SarahAlicia@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

WE ARE ALREADY DEAD LEAVE US ALONE

[–] HotPotatoWithCheese@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Everton would still survive because the promoted sides are that bad
