H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos is a shared universe far larger and more terrifying than that of humanity, where ancient, malevolent beings known as the Great Old Ones slumber in the depths of space or time. After Lovecraft's death, the Mythos has been expanded and developed by many authors, including August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert E. Howard. These and many other authors have helped to flesh out the Mythos into a rich and complex Dark Universe.

I mean... He very much describes the monster in pretty much all the stories I've read. But like most horror, there is a lot of tension built up before this happens.
It would have been funnier to point out that he takes 37 chapters building the tension around the idea that the monster is indescribable; then goes on to describe it in great detail.
Squid guy, right?
After reading all of HP Lovecraft out of curiosity, i learned he was a really bad writer.
He was just one of the first people to create this kind of horror.
I only ended up enjoying like 3 or 4 of his stories.
Iβm always saying this. His stories are fantastic! His writing not so much. Reading lovecraft is a task. A test of patience.
He is my favorite author but itβs like in Charles Dexter ward he says something like βlike a year adding time defying mirrorβ just say the painting looked like the dude. Wtf lovecraft
Have you read some of his long romance like "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath"? Or "The silver key". His stories wasn't only about tentacles, and even when they where, "At mountainof madness", "the shadow over innsmouth " and "The Call of Cthulhu"are gems of the genre.
Yeah I love the Dream Quest, i love the different bizzare cultures (not racist this time) and enviroments, it felt like he had a lot of practice as a writer by that one. The cat society was my fav part

He was just one of the first people to create this kind of horror.
The same way Conan Doyle was just one of the first people creating detective stories. And yet today everyone knows of Sherlock Holmes.
I liked Doyle a lot more than Lovecraft
I really like the way he describe creatures, when i was reading An The Mountains of Madness, as long he was describing th Elder Ones anatomy i was drawing a mental picture in my mind.
I simply was "hold on, this can't be right" and search for a picture online, it just perfectly matches with i throught and i was "HOLY SHIT, it really is like that"
So read Stephen King if Lovecraft's descriptions are too vague.
