if you want to go back and look at something
What if we showed your read history in the sidebar?

Maybe. My gut says just turning it off would make more sense but it should do the same thing. While thinking about it if the mark as read thing was done it would be nice to have a list of what you actually read as opposed to mark as read so it does not come back into the feed when you refresh. Thats separate from what you asked but basically I think the sidebar history should do about as good as being able to turn off the don't show read.
Settings tend to indeed offer new features quite regularly
I just remembered that you can find posts you have read on the 'Account' menu (it's only there if you have the 'hide read posts' option turned on, which I don't, so I had forgotten about it).
yeah. that is about equivalent to jumping to settings and turning it off and on. both take you away from the feed.
You can go to the Account drop down -> Read Posts to see the list of posts you have interacted with.
yeah and in settings I can turn off the feature to. It would be nice to turn it off quickly and back on if you are looking for something. Rimu mentioned having the read posts in a sidebar which would make it quicker to. So its not a capability as more of a nicety usability qol type of thing. I have been loving the don't show read as now I don't have to swithc to new necessarily because im caught up on recents in my view. I can refresh when I get to the bottom and its all new stuff (well some posts are redone without xposting but its rare). But like just yesterday I was looking at a post about recommendations on shows for someone flying and could not think of anything but then low and behold happened to watch a show and im like. Hey this is not bad and would work. Maybe I will look in settings and see if they meant a flight this weekend or if they are already in the air.
