Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

No real details in the article, if you were looking for more info.

A suspect who was in custody also was shot

I'm guessing they don't mean they were shot after being taken into custody, but that's how it reads.

With these clowns it could go either way.

Hopefully no innocent people have been harmed.

Also, if this is anything like the rest of 2025? We are all going to be having panic attacks over this being the moment that is used to justify nation wide martial law (not that they need justification...). But instead it is going to be some gomer with a sig shooting off their foot and then national guard managed to shoot each other while returning fire.

They risk their life for your freedom ...to be shoved down your throat against all of your own will, until you choke on nationalistic pride of ignorance, arrogance, and extreme narrow ideology of what life and existence is.

...now thank them and give them money.

Jk... They were manipulated and used since birth just like the rest of us tbh.

Innocents did harmed national guard are one of the few useful members of the military

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 6 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

They are jackboot thugs enforcing the will of the rapist in chief and are actively occupying a city for no reason other than the ego of said rapist.

They are far from innocent

[–] flandish@lemmy.world -4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

there is no such thing as a useful military. try again.

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I am from a fishing village in Alaska. It's the coast guard that saves people from sinking ships. Pretty fucking useful. Plus the national guard does a lot of disaster relief.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

neat. can be done with firefighter apparatus and focus too. not needed to be done with a military.

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world -3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Yeah well... it's not.

Also, you seem to forget fire fighters assist in 'riot' control

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

actual firefighter here. no we do not assist in riot control. ive not seen it in any recent memory in my 20 years in. anecdotal though this evidence is.

point being; a few good cohorts doing life safety will happen regardless of military existence. let’s support life saving.

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I agree for the most part. But the fact is fire hoses being used on civil rights protesters is almost an iconic image

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago

i dont disagree however I can only see in my mind 60’s era imagery. my dept already knows the fresh hell i will give if we ever get so much as a punisher logo let alone any anti people rhetoric. lol.

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey initially said the troops had died, but he later walked that statement back

Hell of a recovery.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 10 points 6 months ago

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey had earlier said two members of the West Virginia National Guard were killed, but walked back his assertion less than half an hour later.

Having no context, I feel bad for those shot.

But, frankly, these sorts of events are going to increase and I 100% believe they should. Those in power need to fear for their lives and those trying to militarily support them need to question their allegiance.

When was that confirmed? Another article said the WV governor had initially made that claim but walked it back after being told they were in critical condition.
