It's just good to get something in this website for casual viewing whilst refreshing original content is added overtime.

The only good thing YT Rewind was for was finding out what kind of boring bullshit channels normies watch.
That sounds a bit elitist tbh
Yeah all you gotta do is open it in a private browsing window and see the stream of aI nonsense to know what most morons are watching, or at least clicking.

See they're running out of disk space though. Preserving history is so much less important than 58 minute video essays about [insert any banal topic].
Unlisting just means they're not shown in searches, the video is still available, so storage has nothing to do with it

Add another thing to the Google Graveyard ig.
I assumed it's probably due to some creators becoming, or later being discovered as, "problematic" and/or some sort of brand risk. It would look more strange to unlist a few of them, so better to unlist all of them.
To be clear: This is speculation based on zero information 🙃. Just a total guess based on how things tend to go between internet culture and corporations. I'm probably wrong. It would be cool if YouTube would communicate things like this.
It's unfortunate to see such cultural history hidden away. Though, tbh, this is probably the most that I've ever thought about YouTube Rewind, and I haven't thought about it in many years.

To this day I still have no idea what it is, and I don't wanna bother looking it up.
So they invite a select group of artists from the platform who made big gains that year to be a part of something like a YouTube holiday special.
The problem with it is corporate is so out of touch that in 2018 they invited mid-controversy Will Smith and a bunch of K-Pop stars to do the video, almost plays like their target audience is barely pubescent boys and girls. It became less about the community and more about promoting content for monetary purposes.
The YouTube Rewind videos are in the list of the most disliked videos of all time, with the 2018 Rewind being at 20 Million dislikes, surpassing "Baby Shark Dance" at just under 15 Million and "Justin Beiber - Baby" at 12 Million.
That was just about the time they got rid of public downvotes, unsurprisingly

Just preserved youtube history and culture.
They are just unlisted. They are preserved.
It's disgusting that such bigotry towards pizza-pinapplers still exists in today's society.

Why have them? What are they?
Marketing videos, mostly. Ostensibly they're original videos showcasing some of the talent and content from the previous year. The last couple of years have been particularly bland, though, as I understand it.

I think unlisted means they just won’t appear in search/recommended, but can still be viewed if you link directly to them

"Unlisted" means you can't find any of them via search or on the creator's page. But if you still have the URL, you can view them directly

I've been on YouTube from pretty much the start and have never seen a Rewind. Do only Americans get them?
They were a video published and produced by Youtube themselves, showing the most popular videos on the platform, making jokes, etc. It's the same video for everyone. It's not like the "rewinds" some companies do showing your activity for the year.
Here is 2013( I think this was the best one).
