I got a warning on reddit a couple days ago for suggesting Deni Avdija (NBA player) is getting a superstar whistle this season because he is Israeli.

They removed my comment and threatened me with a ban for promoting violence when all I said was "It's because he's Israeli." In response to the OPs question.

I was mostly joking, but it kinda seems like they are already doing what this guy is saying they should do.

Remember if you must reddit, lurk, any voting, commenting you do over there is transferring value from you to reddit.

The fact the moderator didn't even ask for proof for such claim. Typical behaviour.

And this is why I’m here

So...the Jews want to control the media...? Man, they're really trying to live up to some of those old stereotypes.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 11 points 4 days ago

Not Jews but Zionists specifically, including Christian Zionists. Zionists have had siginficant control over US media for a very long time but when you state the obvious people call it the antisemitic trope because they have been conditioned to do so. They were pretty open about why they bought TikTok

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But now that it's a stereotype you aren't allowed to call it out if it really happens lol

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Shrewd maneuvers.

[–] thebardingreen@lemmy.starlightkel.xyz 136 points 6 days ago (7 children)

When any criticism of the Israeli government or expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people is "antisemitic", you've damaged and weakened the very meaning of the word "antisemitism" and the moral authority of those who wield it.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 38 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I've heard some people say some straight-up antisemitic things recently, and, for the first time in my life, I've been scared to speak up against it. Because this country successfully destroyed the meaning of antisemitism to the point that a Nazi could easily stomp my Jewish ass without facing real heat concerning hate crimes because they support Israel or whatever.

My community should have really considered the repercussions of agreeing with a Nazi back when they had a chance. Instead, when I'd point out that being on the same page as Nazis usually implies you're on the wrong side, they responded that maybe it's time to admit that Hitler might have had some good ideas.

You don't have to have seen Lost Boys to know that you shouldn't invite a vampire into your home. Same goes for Nazis.

i have a question to ponder. Why is the term 'antisemitism' used so much more often than 'antijudaism'

Thankfully, there's literally no way that can backfire, which is a real relief.

[–] wuffah@lemmy.world 16 points 6 days ago (3 children)

I can’t even tell what that word means anymore.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 16 points 6 days ago

It means "doesn't smile enthusiastically enough while licking Netanyahu's taint".

And remember his definition of anti-Semitism includes accurately reporting the activities of Israelis in Gaza.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 17 points 4 days ago

Only antisemitism? Not other forms of racism?

I bet the only form of "antisemitism" this is about, is criticism of genocide.

[–] neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com 80 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Sounds like a threat to America and American values.

He is anti-American.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 41 points 6 days ago

I thought fueling Israel's crimes was an American value?

[–] shawn1122@sh.itjust.works 13 points 6 days ago

Does America have values beyond imperialism when it comes to Israel?

[–] MummysLittleBloodSlut@lemmy.blahaj.zone 52 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Buddy, I don't want people to think Jews control the media, but it sure seems like you do

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 31 points 6 days ago (8 children)

It’s not “Jews” it’s a fundamentalist ethnostate that has occupied our government. Implying it’s “Jews” just plays into their victim defense. Not trying to get on you just trying to spread awareness about changing our language so it’s harder for Israel to claim victim hood for the consequences of their own actions.

[–] MummysLittleBloodSlut@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I know that, but this guy doesn't want me to, which is why it really seems like he wants people to hate Jews

Israel single-handedly making all the antisemitic conspiracy theories start seeming more and more true.

[–] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 54 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like a good way to get people who have no problem with Israel to start having a problem with Israel.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 28 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If you don’t have a problem with Israel you’re not paying attention

[–] Vendetta9076@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

That's the entire point of what theyre saying. Most people aren't paying attention. But do something like this and they will start to.

jesus fucking christ stop giving a platform to assholes. Don't disseminate their ideas. Ever.

[–] LemmeAtEm@lemmy.ml 12 points 5 days ago

In principle, I agree with you. But the problem is, these assholes already have the platform. They own it, in the literal sense (they outright own or hold large shares in the major social media platforms and the traditional media outlets) and in the more general, vague sense (their beliefs, even if fringe, will get pushed into mainstream discourse because of their grotesquely outsized disproportionate influence). He's a billionaire. If he wants his message heard by the world, it will be heard, period, because we live in a capitalist society, which isn't called a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie for nothing.

Given this reality that their ideas will be disseminated regardless, it becomes important to counter them. To shout out the truth that their ideas are disgusting and how they do great harm to regular people and to the world. It is important to mock them and show others how ridiculous and heinous their ideas are.

In short:
If an evil voice has no platform or is struggling to grow one, then I absolutely agree - do not give it to them. But when they already have it, it can only make things worse if their opposition (we, ourselves) remain silent about the harm they're already doing.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago

If ignoring them worked, we'd be fine.

[–] Coach@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The First Amendment is already gone. Have you seen what happens to people who criticize the regime? The US is cooked, fam.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

First Amendment was always a polite fiction of the regime. Americans get to pretend they have it until they upset someone with actual power.

But you're always free to run scams, to slander the weak and vulnerable, and to rally bigots into a lynch mob. So the idea of Free Speech remains valuable to demagogues and unscrupulous marketing goons alike.

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 31 points 6 days ago

Capitalism is the heir of feudalism and always the prelude to fascism, a system of control and oppression, never a political system. Billionairs and politicians need to be controlled, not the other way arround.

[–] DieserTypMatthias@lemmy.ml 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Thank god I am not American.

[–] JenIsBringingTheDrugs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Europe unfortunately isn't really going in the right direction either with things like chat control

[–] majster@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Digital services act is the one that put up speech controls for socials.

More billionaires should kill themselves.

Hey now. They're billionaires. Don't ask them to do work like the rest of us; people should be doing things for them.

[–] sandwich@piefed.social 33 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Israeli Billionaire

Nope, not surprised.

...or we can just decentralize the entire web again. Seriously!

[–] Tenderizer78@lemmy.ml 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

At this point it's pretty clear America will support Israel regardless of what we say or do. Does free speech even matter anymore?
