Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I rest my case. I won’t listen to to any other copes but here’s your proof pretty privilege exists.

Both killed influencial multi millionaire figures but one gets praised and girls thirsting for him and randos wanting to defend him in court, while the other didn’t get the same treatment because he wasn’t as genetically blessed as Luigi. In fact I see a lot of people lowkey roasting Robinson for his looks, while all I see for Luigi is how hot he is and how he’s in the right.

Many people probably don’t even realize this but it’s just pretty privilege. And I’m sure I’ll have plenty of people coping here.

I think it has less to do with appearances than the popularity of issues/people they choose to pursue with their actions.

Luigi off'ed someone pretty much universally reviled across political spectrums. Probably a good 80% of people could sympathize at least a little with what Luigi did. Every adult has probably had extensive personal experience dealing with the dysfunction of our healthcare system. Brian Thompson is just the personification of that.

Tyler did a perfect one-shot with the most hilarious timing on someone that was loathed by ~50% of the country and liked by the other ~50%.

The two issues have a fairly wide gap in universal appeal.

Another big thing is the reasoning behind their actions.

Luigi, allegedly, did so in retaliation against a failed system that had exploited people by routinely denied them healthcare to save a buck, one that he is directly a victim of. That's something we can all be sympathetic to.

The other is just a right wing troll who shot another right wing troll for not being the right kind of troll. Nobody's gonna be sympathetic to that except other right wing trolls.

It has nothing to do with their looks.

Though there is a point to be made that people do need to overall stop insulting people, even horrible people, for their appearance. It just throws people under the bus to stroke our egos with a low-hanging-fruit insult. Because of those insults we get people like OP who fail to understand the point.

Hence, OP.

I agree, I think it's a factor and most people are oblivious to it. However I also think the discrepancy is in greater part explained by the respective circumstances, targets and motives -as outlined by other users ITT

Pretty privilege isn't some new concept man. Attractive people benefiting from their looks has always existed. Im not sure why it took the two examples you posted for you to realize this though.

Tyler, is that you?
