How is the entire state of Minnesota not on a general strike by now? There's a paramilitary group marauding their streets and kidnapping and killing people.

A general strike isn't something you can just do. There is so much behind the scenes support that's necessary. It's by design a tough proposition to ask a large chunk of people to put their healthcare, housing, food, etc all at risk with no support. You need mutual aid things like strike funds set up to even have a hope of getting one off the ground.

It's like this, how willing do you think the average person would be to confront a random guy who seems to be about to attack someone? How much does that willingness change if you can see that guy is carrying a gun? How much does it change if instead of you being alone when you saw this guy you were chatting with 3 of your neighbors and you all decided to confront him together?

The state leadership could organize and fund the strike but maybe that’d be seen as treason and grounds to send in the army. Though really at this point I want to see a governor try it. Especially Walz who gave up on politics and has nothing to lose now.

Except his life

You're certainly right in a way, but on the other hand with social movements it sometimes only takes a handful of people with conviction to get the ball rolling. And my point is, when people's lives and freedoms are at risk anyway, they might as well lay down their work and go full-time protesting.

I don't think I could just go on working like normal if my neighbours' houses got raided by a paramilitary force.

They have been indoctrinated into believing that the only solution is voting harder for the other party which also funds ICE and does not abolish it, but does it slightly less.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"slightly less"? Trump tripled the ice budget.

There is an enormous difference between masked goons attacking people outside of elementary schools and immigration enforcement.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world -5 points 2 months ago

Yes they used to do it more secretively now it is happening in the open.

I feel SO much safer knowing that they FINALLY caught the cart guy at Target. Mission Accomplished guys, you got him!

My god, our tax dollars are paying for this. I can barely imagine the chain of viciously stupid people that are part of the process that results in this.

That guy was taking your job. Now you can finally get a job at Target! Go stack those shelves king!

[–] plateee@piefed.social 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oooh, this is awkward. I don't really "want" a job restocking shelves at Target.

(Why does this keep happening - I also didn't want the job of working as a farm laborer...)

Ya, I actually was waiting for the position of richest person in US. I figured that since he is a foreigner and broke laws to get his citizenship, ICE should be hot on his trail at this very moment.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I am all for Hanlon's Razor usually, but in this case I'm not sure we can settle for "stupid". I think "evil" is sadly more apt.

[–] errer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Por qué no los dos?

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 62 points 2 months ago (1 children)

According to another post, after they kidnapped him, they confirmed he was a US citizen and dumped him in a Walmart parking lot.

Bleeding even.

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 28 points 2 months ago

The boy is being arrested like a highly dangerous criminal. Amazing how instead of spending the same amount of effort to catch real criminals they are catching whoever they see as an illegal immigrant.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 20 points 2 months ago (2 children)

How is this legal, the minor is a US citizen.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 27 points 2 months ago

It's not, but the federal government is compromised

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

The usa is slowly becoming lawless

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 months ago

Racist segregationists are waging war against America. It's time to crush this ideology and restore sanity before this whole thing goes up in flames. These people need to be identified, tried, and convicted. No peace with racism.
