Oh good I’m tired of that ugly orange supermodel on every freaking magazine cover

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Not sure if it's just me, but "wokeness" always meant being "awake" to me, or more enlightened.

As opposed to asleep, or being a "sheep" as people were referring to it a few years back.

So seeing some say "wokeness" is over seems to imply to me that thinking for ones self, or being informed is no longer required.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 23 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

She looks like she's afraid of being alone with the person taking her picture. Because of the implications.

[–] Ummdustry@sh.itjust.works 11 points 15 hours ago

Supermodels have deer DNA injections now, this gives them that gorgeous "fifty seconds from a heart attack" chic

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@piefed.world 12 points 21 hours ago

Tbf I think Prada just has that style where the model is meant to look a bit uncomfortable.

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 17 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Man, just wait until he figures it out. He’ll cum twice as hard.

[–] kablez@lemmy.world 12 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

That's why they hate the yearly Pornhub report.

IIRC there's a pattern of greater interest in trans porn in all red states.

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 5 points 18 hours ago

There sure is, and Grindr always crashes whenever and wherever there’s a Republican convention in town.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

Is being praised by MAGA a "they use my photos to spread bullshit rhetoric" insult to trans people, or is it more of an "even they say I am valid" double-compliment?

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

Both. Definitely both. Our minds can experience two emotions at once.

[–] inimzi@lemmy.today 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It seems to me that they want people’s attention on the fabricated culture war instead of focusing on actual policies and real solution

[–] jali67@lemmy.zip 2 points 21 hours ago

Yeah that’s been the way of Republicans the last few decades.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm sorry, so for the past 4 years we only had "ugly" women in ads?

Does this idiot understand how marketing even works?

Yeah, we had more plus sized models, because for one, they are a target market for advertisement because, and I know this sounds crazy, plus sized women also need clothes and gasp humans like to see "people like them" in ads and people like "pretty people like them" even better.

None of this is new and this is just more Maga brain rot

Man, i do wonder how general intelligence.in the US compares to Canada or Mexico, or Europe. It can't be good.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't expect you to know who that model is because I didn't know either, but what I did do was skim the comments first before posting a giant tirade and getting wooshed... ;)

[–] daniskarma@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Woke is when woman not beautiful. Noted.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (3 children)

"Woke" is when they're mad about how things are or are now not. "Woke" is anything and nothing, which makes it usable for everything.

Can someone smarter than me explain why the world is full off fucked up individuals, like why is it so rare to find an actual decent human being, or is it that the worst of us are the loudest and the so you notice those more

[–] quips@slrpnk.net 14 points 1 day ago

Because content delivery algorithms are designed to feed you content which is most likely to he engaged with.

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 7 points 23 hours ago

Decades of the wealth class pushing for privatization of essential services such as education by slashing budgets of public services.

Those individuals also just so happen to have stake in those private entities.

The result is a populace who isn’t educated enough to know that they’re trapped in an endless grift.

And the stupider someone is, the more emotionally reactive they are. So we’ve got the people pushing the culture war shit who know that they’re full of shit, and the hapless idiots that pass along the message thanks to being tricked into being scared of their fellow man for inane reasons.

Toss in organized religion, and baby you got an ignorance stew brewin!

[–] originaltnavn@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

I think it might be the latter. There is a lot of weird people online, but I don't know that many of them in real life.

I think other comments missed that the model is actually trans, thus making the poster ~~ironic or~~ the typical dumbass. And I know that she wanted to distance herself from her transness as stated in the Wikipedia article, but it's relevant to the post here.

It’s got to be satire. Beautiful women have never stopped being in ads. Why make this comment for this specific post if it’s not satire.

Meanwhile, the ad companies do not care.

The right wants to claim these companies are on their side. The companies aren't on their side, they're not on anybody's side. If they think they can generate more sales with a fat, black model in a bikini, they'll do it. If it's a thin trans model, they'll do that. If it's a slim blonde with big tits and a swastika tattoo, they'll do that instead. Whatever moves product.

Prada, 2023:

Prada, 2022:

Prada, 2018:

I might have switched up 23 and 22.

But uh... what?

Like, I'll give you that Prada seems to consistently go for models that kinda look like aliens, with pretty big eyes and generally chiseled or striking features, they try to emphasize triangular faces and chins, strong cheekbones...

But... are these not generally attractive women?

... I was going to ask what this person is smoking, but I'm guessing its meth.

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

Damn, they really peaked at ominous romboid shape

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

They didnt actually LOOK at any Prada magazines. They just heard it from some jackass on Twitter and fell for the grift.

(Yes, I get the joke)

What the hell causes people to believe there’s a large political faction that wants people in media to be unattractive? At worst, some people just get taken out of a fantasy world if the women are wearing straight bikinis for no reason, but there’s many ways to make them look sexy without attire being totally impractical.
