News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
It bothers me how weak-willed most people are. They'll bitch, moan, and complain about a platform, but won't leave it.
I think they do want to leave. They just don’t want to be the first to leave among their group, because they’re afraid of going it alone. Complaining then serves as a way of trying to build a consensus around leaving as a group. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Why it works when it works will remain a mystery to me.
Wait, you guys had groups? I used Reddit for years and it never felt like a community. Was this hard for anybody here?
Yes, they are some pretty good niche subs that can't exist in Lemmy due to critical mass. I still read them from time to time but mostly stopped participating. Except for one related to my job so it benefits me a lot to stay connected to my professional community.
It’s all about the small subreddits. Ones where a new post can stay on the page for several days in a row but there are plenty of new comments and posts to keep discussions going without everyone losing interest. These are communities where you get to know the regular posters and beginners are welcomed with friendly advice, rather than chastised for asking repeated questions (beginners always repeat frequently asked questions; that’s a universal rule).
I think it’s also pretty important that the inflow of new members is not too high or nonexistent for that matter. And that the outflow of people leaving is roughly balanced with the inflow, so the community doesn’t grow too fast and it doesn’t wither away either.
So they're cowards.
What you are describing is cowardice.
I’ve left reddit but I still go back to look at it every once in a while to see where it’s going
I block ads everywhere, and so I sometimes forget that there are no ads on the Fediverse to begin with.
Remembering that made me feel a little bit more relaxed. I appreciate everyone here 😊
I sometimes forget that there are no ads on the Fediverse to begin with.
Just glanced up to uBlock Origin and that number's not zero, so...maybe not visual ads, but there isn't nothing.

Aside from the cloudflare stat tracker, probably just a false positive JS match from quick fixes.
It's the cloudflare one for me, yeah. The bit where it says how many things are blocked on the page you're currently on seems to always say "2".
Honestly didn't even notice until this thread, lol.
Generally there shouldn't be anything (on Lemmy anyway), it's showing 0 on mine.
Out of curiosity, can you check what is being blocked on yours? It could be worth following up on
Lemmy.world appears to link cloudflareinsights.com. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but interesting nonetheless.
its always zero on mines.
This is the shit that annoys me. “Yes Im on a platform that gladly takes money for fascist advertising and removes anything but the most milquetoast criticisms of the regime, but I really need to talk about attack on titan with other spineless dorks so here I am”
We’re fucked as a society.
Question is, if you are still on reddit, why?
There are niche communities that don't have the numbers that lemmy has.
Cant just live without them and start them up elsewhere? Reach out to the handul of peoole you would go to the effort of DMing to invite them to a signal chat or something to not lose touch?
There are too many people who cry about people not doing enough who themselves cant make the smallest sacrifice or inconvenience.
Because you reach 10-1000 times as many people. As one can also see in the picture of the post (well, you don't see the number of views, but it's likely in the same range as likes and comments are).
It sucks and I hate reddit. But how else can you reach the people that are not on the fediverse?
I like to browse r/AsianAmerican r/AsianParentStories and r/AzIdentity (I have a comm here for The Asian Diaspora but its semi-dead lol)
Also r/SpyxFamily because I like to search about fan theories and discussions and stuff
And also like a lot of TV show discussions
Media recommendations...
Use Tor or VPN and never logged in cuz I don't feel like using my real IP for stuff and they instant ban accounts using any sort of proxy so I don't bother with an account.
Also like r/Cantonese sometimes
Really Lemmy is only politics and r/AskLemmy unfortunately
sometimes you get a Casual Conversation... but not often.
So yea...
Fuck reddit
But why the fuck is everyone on there?
Oh a good day I think I'm participating to grow this place so it can one day be a viable Reddit alternative. I was a person who built Reddit over years and hundreds of thousands of comments.
On a bad day, I think I'm just trying to get dopamine hits from an incredibly toxic echo chamber.
other addictive subreddits like sports, celebrity drama, LIVESTREAM DRAMA, SOME MOVIEs. niche topics.
"Things are fucked and reddit is bad, but i like things". Thats what that sounds like.
They literally have ads for the modern day american gestapo, but your willingness to resist against it is limited by your desire to read.... Fan theories....
"You criticize society, yet you participate in it"
-This is what you sound like
Oh btw did you know the internet runs mostly on Jeff Bezos AWS and your device is made with slave labor?
Oh they know what they’re doing… come on…
They’re not men. They’re rabid dogs. Like rapists, getting off on the power over no matter the damage.
Careful, or someone might lecture you about dehumanizing these dangerous, inhuman monsters.
Ofc why slander dogs, especially sick puppers, by associating them with these fascist scumbags?
"who watches the Watchmen?
Add another ad on top and you get the russian internet rn. The difference is: american media has way more traction.

Archive link? there's a paywall (disgusting)
Weird, no paywall for me and I'm definitely not subscribed
on mobile there was one, seems like ublock or noscript blocked it on desktop
I checked on mobile but I use Brave
