Don’t get high on your own supply? 🤷

Guys i don't say that I want to eat it but i am saying that i also yearn to eat this thing

[–] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

On the most shallow and vague level, me too. I wouldn't say it looks inviting, but maybe compelling somehow. I also unironically like brutalist architecture, so this feels like its cousin.

I am reasonably certain any yearning would fade mid-way through my first bite, tho, as gigantic armies of raw onion just route and slay whatever other piddling forces of flavor they can find. Cheese? Bread? Erased, never heard of em.

I've seen half this much onion just eviscerate more composed, varied, and coordinated forces than these, just by sheer ignorant, naked, might.

Not for you?!

The Americans are not going to like what I am about to say: Beans on Toast is a great meal.

[–] tastetheplague@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It actually doesn't sound half bad, but for breakfast? I couldn't.

[–] Techlos@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Beans, toast, wilted spinach, fried tomato, sauteed mushrooms and onion, all sprinkled with thyme and served with a big cup of coffee.

Not something I'd eat every day, but if I'm doing stage setup for a festival with back to back shifts? That brekkie will keep you going a good 10 hours.

It's more of a lunch thing.

Brooo beans on garlic bread, damn that would be bangin!

[–] Buffy@libretechni.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I don't even like beans, but if I did this sounds like a way better texture than just beans by themselves. I don't understand why people who enjoy them act like putting it on toast is weird.

9/10 for ingredients

2/10 for prep/cooking

Cut that onion in half to make 2 disks, then quarter those, add just enough water to steam, cover and cook until soft or the water steams away, add butter and sautee until the onions are medium brown. Cube the cheese and add to the onions, stir until melted, add a pinch of flour, maybe a crushed and minced clove of garlic and cook for another minute, salt and pepper to taste. Butter and toast the inside of the roll spread the cheese and onion mixture.

Consider taking an antacid if you can't handle garlic and onion.

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

if you can't handle garlic and onion.

At that point I’d consider violating the terms of service.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

True, if you already had half an onion on bread, you probably understood the assignment. Arguably, you might break up more of the cell walls in the prep work, but the cooking probably would have tamed it all a bit.

I see the mixed and polarized reactions in the comments and I think that makes the OP a good shitpost.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

This is totally me:

[–] elephantium@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

But we do not grant you the title of Spice Master.

[–] nagaram@startrek.website 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If I was depressed and the onion was already cut.

Yeah I'd eat it. Might eat it like that just to see.

Any idea what kinda cheese?

[–] bfg9k@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Leicester ✅

[–] jenny_ball@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

that would ruin your next two days for anyone over 30

[–] svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Come on now, OP. What ever other criticism you may level at that sandwich, you can't say that cheese and raw onion is lacking in flavour.

You would never have been able to afford to eat this during rationing, that's an entire family's cheese allowance for a week.

[–] udon@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is it healthy? No.

But does it taste good? Also no.

I would eat that. Who doesn't like cheese or onions?

A good bun. A tasty onion. Flavourful cheese. What's not to like? If it was an American factory bread-like bun with American Cheese, the onion might still make it edible.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Grill the onion and melt the cheese

[–] Geldaran@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

This. That'd be a fantastic sandwich if you melted that cheese, toasted the bun, and sauteed or grilled the onion.

TBH, onion sandwich is delicious. Never tried with cheese tho

(Just sliced onion and a lil bit of oil (I use soy oil because it's what we use, and it's cheap here, but I guess olive oil may work) in a baguette. You can add a pinch of salt or pepper if you want)
