Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

CNN employees reacted with alarm after Netflix abruptly pulled out of the bidding war for Warner Bros. Discovery, effectively clearing the way for a takeover of the 24/7 cable channel by Paramount Skydance, the media giant run by technology heir David Ellison.

Seven current CNN employees who spoke to NBC News on Thursday night, hours after Netflix announced it would not try to match Paramount’s bid for WBD, expressed a combination of fear and concern. They described the mood inside the company as “shaken” and” depressing.”

I can only hope they leak the details of the changes when it starts happening so everyone can know.

They need to start a CBC United States Service and Broadcast from Canada, mirroring the BBC German Service during the Nazi years in Germany.

This might be the last straw for a lot of them...

But they're all carrying a shit ton on their backs by now if they still work at CNN. If they had resigned with everyone for any of the last ethical meltdowns at the company we might have seen change.

They just kept it alive long enough for even more right leaning people to be hired and trained to do their own jobs.

We need to be more like the French where people strike and riot because their college roommate's second cousin may be slightly inconvenienced. With the understanding it works both ways.

If everyone waits till their personal line, there's never a critical mass.

Most people won't give a shit.

Easy. All should quit their jobs right now. All. Now.

Then set up a new broadcaster together

Keep in mind this was less than three years ago:

Zaslav’s marching orders for Licht were to push CNN more toward the political middle. It makes some sense — Fox News is a right-wing propaganda machine; MSNBC is basically the same thing for the left. You’d think there would be a fair amount of room right down the center.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2023/06/07/relief-chris-licht-out-at-cnn/70299362007/

And that article was about Licht being fired...

He was replaced by this shithead:

In a 4 February 2024 investigation by The Guardian, some CNN staff blamed their channel's newly appointed director Mark Thompson for what they described as biased reporting of the Gaza war. The staff criticized their network's coverage of the war, charging that it had promoted Israeli propaganda, and gave more attention to Israeli suffering, and the Israeli narrative of the war. One staffer claimed that this bias was systematic and institutionalized, as many journalists' stories were forced to be cleared by channel's Jerusalem bureau before publication.

Meaning the current employees who are now worried, haven't been worried enough to leave over ethical concerns long ago. And they're still worried about what is happening.

It's neoliberalism all over, they keep ratcheting to the right, it fails, so they double down and move further right. We have to accept the people calling the shots aren't trying to make it work and know it won't. They just want to drag the Overton window the right under any pretext.

No matter what happens, in 3-5 years they'll say their only choice is to move to the right, that's what authoritarians do.

Does CNN still have something they consider a "newsroom"? Or do they just have one of their mainstream normie opinionated shows that's named "Newsroom"?

[–] MOARbid1@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago

They can only control us if we watch. Don’t watch.

[–] Ancalagon@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Imagine if everyone just quit.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

CNN employees suffering the consequences of their actions? Oh well, anyways.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Who gets their news from the MSM anymore other than a few glib highlights like snowstorms or when there is an election?

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

A lot of people do. Otherwise mainstream media wouldn't exist anymore. They're not run as charities.

And those people all vote.
