Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Can Reactos be run from a thumbdrive?

    [–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

I have all of these at home! I'll take slackware 7 on a thrift store thinkpad please. I imagine that pill is probably beige.

Red. Currently in the process of trying to set up VMs on my Fedora workstation ( with virtmanager). It's a bit of a struggle getting them to save state right now, but once that's done I'm one step closer to never needing to go back.

Can "Linux" be another color? Red pillers are incel neo-Nazi douchebags.

    [–] hancock@retrolemmy.com 6 points 17 hours ago

Do not let them take any color. Own it.

Yes! (I'm a little biased since it's my favorite color.)

i mean in the truest and most original sense, the red pill represented waking up from the status quo. in a world owned by Microsoft and Apple, a red pill is what linux is

    [–] AllHailTheSheep@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

in its truest form, the red pill in the matrix represented estrogen. it's really funny that nazis chose that as their dog whistle

Never did manage to get ReactOS working for me

    [–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

ReactOS can vaguely work, but since it can't really run anything, it's of limited usefulness.

    [–] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 86 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No TempleOS? The Lord shall smite you for this wicked heresey.

    [–] muhyb@programming.dev 32 points 2 days ago

TempleOS doesn't have a pill. It's just bread and wine.

The correct spelling is DBMS. The picture is accurate though.

Still technically means the same thing

    [–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

    [–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

Red pill please. Only Linux please.

    [–] Samsy@lemmy.ml 21 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

One of them has to be inserted rectally, but I'm not going to say which one.

Ohh, and another one it's your decision.

    [–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 5 points 2 days ago

They all have to be inserted rectally, but the Linux pill vibrates and comes with free lube.

Windows pill you have to pay extra for lube.

    [–] lime@feddit.nu 18 points 2 days ago (11 children)

i need more weird ones. haiku, nextstep, inferno, oberon, alto exec, os/2 warp, z/360, vms, maclisp, colorforth...

    [–] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 19 hours ago

KolibriOS and MenuetOS are there, but are so tiny we can't see them at all.

AROS was there, but the kitty mascot refuses every pill

Dont forget RedoxOS, long live the secure rust microkernel

    [–] juipeltje@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Red pill. Tried the green pill but it was just too painfull having to still interact with windows period. Nuked it a few weeks ago. Screw the anti-cheat games lol, i'd rather not play them if that's what it takes to be free.
