Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Like they do with dogs today.

There would be social pressure in China to stop eating pork so as to do civilisation better.

And nobody would ask why the Bible forbids eating pig meat; since pigs wouldn't be food animals, asking why it's wrong to eat them would be like asking why theft is wrong.

"If XYZ people would make racist comments"

Lmao you have no idea how often people make "do you eat cats and dogs?" "jokes" to me when I was in school. Both white and black kids, and even hispanic kids too, basically every Non-Asian makes those "jokes"...

I don't ever recalled eating a cat or dog...

And even if some people do... you can't really be judging what people eats in a country with a different culture and was in a war-torn state after the invasion by imperial japan. Would you rather people starve to death?

Also I have a cat as a pet and its not food

I'm Chinese American.

I mean, they were still actively eating dogs when i was in south korea in the early 2000s so you can’t really blame it on wartime famine. It’s just a cultural thing.

I'm a Muslim man and I can tell you nobody cares, really. My MIL complains about the drug and booze culture, which are actual problems since you can't go outside without seeing loud, sometimes aggressive groups of drunk/coked out white boys, or nonsense pushed by Western media. Non-Muslims eating pork is not even a topic I've ever talked about with any Muslim person.

But yes, Western leaders (not just them, ofc, but they're the most relevant and identifiable group that does this, even between themselves ["freedom fries" and the concept of "whiteness" come to mind]) will find and push any reason/narrative to make their already brain-dead, heavily propagandised, truth-agnostic people hate others, simply because they can then manipulate this sentiment, maybe pushing it far enough to make the average man cheer for death and destruction, and profit from it.

Any taboo is an oppertunity to exclude the out group.

Chinese people don't eat dogs lmao. Maybe in the 1300s but not in today's time or at all recently

I think you've missed the entire point of the thought.

What do you think they were trying to say? Because I don't see anything that would warrant this reaction.

It must ring true to them, full of hatred maybe?

I've never seen a Muslim give a fuck what y'all eat but I've seen white boys try to taunt Muslims with pork more than once lol. Something is wrong with some of y'all

I mean pigs and dogs are not that far off.
