Free Palestine.

Fighting against your oppressors makes you no better than them, so just close your eyes and think of England.

"Fight back against the murderer? But that would make me as bad as them!"

What metaphysics does to people.

Liberals are hyper exposed to the latter and sheltered from the former.

Check the Cuba coverage right now. We're getting wall to wall #SOSCuba tier hysterics, while the devestation of the blockade and the threat of a military invasion goes fully unreported.

Yep, good point. Thankfully solar and other supplies are being given to Cuba in large quantities, but this is a return to special period style intentional misery.

That's news to me. Was just listening to a podcast interviewing a local Cuban journalist, suggesting help was not - in fact - on the way.

Incidentally, Belly of the Beast does some excellent domestic Cuban coverage. But everything they are reporting suggests these supplies have not been forthcoming, on account of the military blockade of the island. Like, you cannot sail ships into and out of the major harbors (shy of outright smuggling or armed escort).

Much like with the Gaza Blockade, there are ongoing efforts to build political pressure by assembling relief and directing it at the island. There's no reason to believe it will actually arrive.

It's a bit of both. Aid is being blocked, but is also arriving. It's helping, but the embargo itself is still causing shortages and deaths.

These appear to have arrived before the US tightened the blockage in earnest. Their plan was for a 2 GW combined installation, of which this represents maybe 1%.

A flotilla from the US just arrived recently. Cuba's electrification and adoption of solar is slowed by the embargo but it's also something that is happening and is making an impact.

What they're doing is laudable. But these boats are tiny compared with what the Cubans need to survive.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 weeks ago

Sure, my point is that the rise in solar is a good thing and that this is benefiting the Cuban people. Not that it is capable of fixing the problem alone.

Not really, violence of the oppressor is lawful so is not as bad as the violence against it, and it shouldn't be fight using violence but the system that validated the oppressors violence. - The Libs

Hits incredibly hard. Rest in power.

Painfully true

Luigi did nothing wrong.

Usually though violence does more harm than good to the cause, and the people who partake in it usually care more about LARPing as a revolutionary than actually achieving revolution.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 17 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Kinda. There's an important difference between revolutionary violence and adventurism. In Palestine, it's existential and necessary.

[–] Tenderizer78@lemmy.ml -1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It was also, seemingly, counterproductive in Palestine. Sure more countries have on paper recognized Palestine and there is more awareness of the cause, but practically nothing has improved.

Then again, there's not really any action I can think of that they could've taken to improved things in Palestine.

It's the last option they have, and it largely has been working to undermine Israel's existence. Settlers have been fleeing at enormous rates and now Iran is destroying US and Israeli millitary structures, accelerating that.
