It's so frustrating to me that the vaccine is 50+, as if the rest of us can't get it. I WISH I could get my shongles shit today.

Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
Protop: contract a debilitating autoimmune disease and get on immunosuppressants that don't suppress the disease but do qualify you for all the niche vaccines from an early age
Or just work in healthcare
I had a shongles flare up when I was a teen. Can it also happen only once like chicken pox, or can there be a round 3? Wondering if I still need to get the shit or not
You can get shingles multiple times, unfortunately. Talk to your doctor; they may recommend you get the shingles vaccine early if you have already had an episode. But if it’s been a while with no more episodes, it may be reasonable to wait until 50.
Good news, this is actually 05+
Assuming you live in the US, you could go to a pharmacy that does vaccines (most of the big ones) and get a shingles shot as long as you are over 19 and say you have an immunocompromising illness. And theoretically your insurance should pay for it as well. The paperwork and online scheduling/screening software won’t ask or care about specifics, though if the pharmacist is curious, they may ask.
There isn’t much data to suggest getting the vaccine earlier would be particularly helpful if you are immune competent, but you can do with that information what you will.
That took me quite a while.
I got my shingles vaccines done last year because I saw how devastating shingles was when my mother-in-law got it. Yes, the shingles vax side effects can be brutal (they were for me), but a few days of suffering are a small price to pay.
What side effects are there?
For me it was fever, ache and pains including strong joint pain, skin sensitivity, inflammation of the lymph nodes found in the arm put area (also very tender to the touch) and severe headache.
Thanks. How long did the overrall symptoms last?
Two days of awful. Four total not feeling right.
EDIT: FYI. You need to multiply that by two because you have to take the shot twice.
Fun fact, the shongles vax is also linked to lowering dementia risk https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-025-08800-x
Clearly due to shongles causing dementia, thus not getting shongles reduces your chance of dementia! Dementia is likely often brain inflammation, so shongles just cooks ya gourd. Super cool thanks virus
Edit; Even cooler, for shongles vax to reduce the risk of heart disease that also has to mean that shongles causes heart inflammation. Super cool super cool, covid causes heart inflammation and you’re at risk for heart issues at least 9 months out from an infection (maybe life, could be perma organ damage sometimes, again very cool viri) I do not like that so many viri apparently do this
I think COVID cooked my immune system. My body attacks itself and I end up with welts when exposed to cold now. Very cool virus indeed.
Sounds like Cold Urticaria. Might want to see your doctor and carry an epi-pen if it affects your breathing.
🅱️ruh that’s ducked up, try antihistmemes H 1 and 2 (H1 allergy: Loratadine; H2 tum tum: Famotidine) at the same time next time you’re going into a sitch that causes the welts. They’ll reduce select inflammation that might cover whatever the fuck that is 🤷♀️ seems long covid inflammation is related to H1/H2 receptors often
Be wary H1 haves have major side effects, some (Zyrtec, Allegra) are addictive and you’ll have withdrawal symptoms. Loratadine/Claratin might make you depressed. All gen 1 will bulldoze your brain, light af touch with them.
I decided to find out what a shongle is; From the word shoe, containing "sho", which means a low-cut fabric for the foot, and dangle, meaning to hang loosely. A shongle is most likely a type of loose sock. Makes sense--you could, most likely, have your sock shit in.
Better yet, I read the top right as "drive thru pregnancy"
Am I gregnent?
Sure, it's been a while since I've had anyone shit my shongles
What are some of the symptoms of shongles?
