Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

For increased accuracy, "Cookies?" should've been either Y/Y or Y/"N"

[–] dalekcaan@feddit.nl 65 points 3 months ago

As the old joke goes:

Do tech companies understand consent?

 [Yes] [Ask again later]
[–] scratchee@feddit.uk 35 points 3 months ago

Or more often now, Y/Pay

[–] Nikls94@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

For me it’s "Yes" - makes the website think I got them but my computerβ€˜s like "Heh. Nah."

[–] RustyNova@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

That's why I have cookies disabled by default on the browser level. I don't care about your cookies, they will be gone on restart

Librewolf my beloved.

Y/Ask Later

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 41 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Ain't this the fuckin truth

[–] perishthethought@piefed.social 32 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No it's fucking not!

Yes, climate change is real and getting worse but you can go outside still and enjoy yourself. It's not the waste land depicted here in most places, yet.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Unfortunately it's primarily those places where most people live that are the most destroyed ones. You have to be able to travel some distance to enjoy nature (or the managed green lands we call "nature" these days).

I could just walk but my lazy ass is always on the terminal.Β

[–] AverageEarthling@feddit.online 30 points 3 months ago (1 children)

outside needs a 10 lane highway and strip malls, and no sidewalks.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Also the strip mall is all closed.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And they've chained off the parking lot.

[–] baltakatei@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And the highway is littered with potholes.

And everything has cilantro on it!

[–] manmachine@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles

* Poorly regulated capitalism

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

While I agree with you, I think it's also the inevitable end state. I don't think we can forever win the battle of regulation against the corporations. It would mean having people in power continuously doing the right thing and not being swayed by money.

[–] DisgruntledGorillaGang@reddthat.com 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No, it would mean the people taking back the power and holding their representatives accountable, stringing them up when they capitulate to capital.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Yes, in theory democracy would be the stop gap.

But it turns out that democracy is only as good as the education and understanding of the public. I'm losing faith in that, as many many people have shown that they can't mature past mental teenagers.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

People who support anarchy don't seem to realize that a representative democracy is exactly their goal, and we're currently seeing how that plays out.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Yeah. I never understood the anarchy thing. Every definition of anarchy that I've come across, which admittedly is not all of them, just seems to boil down to "people will do the right thing". But they don't. And they also ignore the fact that people outside the group will band together and do the wrong thing and take over your group.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@gamepad.club 3 points 3 months ago

@surewhynotlem @DisgruntledGorillaGang the education that was eroded as planned by conservatives. Its the easiest thing. Brainwash the public, and make sure that actual smart people are mocked and ignored. Then bring in more putrid trash like fox news to solidify false beliefs. Sprinkle on some llm slop disinformation . and you have fascism.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Guess it's time to destroy that, too.

[–] msage@programming.dev 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The 'we' is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org -2 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, it's mostly just Americans ruining everything.

[–] wurstgulasch3000@feddit.org 15 points 3 months ago

I think you meant to write "billionaires"

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

American here, how did I ruin the internet?

[–] baltakatei@sopuli.xyz 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

By having your computer shipped to you, mostly.

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 months ago

Wot? Doesn't pretty much everyone in the world have their computer shipped to them? Unless they live outside the Computer Factory

[–] zabadoh@ani.social 10 points 3 months ago

Better to stay indoors and doomscroll through the Internet!

Oh wait...

[–] Zink@programming.dev 8 points 3 months ago

I think interacting with the natural world is good for us, almost regardless of the state of the environment.

My back yard is a complete disaster right now because it's essentially an active construction zone where my kid and multiple dogs play every day.

But if I wander outside, play some fetch, stare at some trees and clouds, listen to the birds, and feel the sun on my skin, it does some subtle subconscious stuff for the better for sure. It's even a little bit of exercise.
