Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

What, so I can be underpaid to do the most stressful and undersupported job ever, with the chance that the next political controversy may force me to go weeks or months without pay, and then feel the guilt of killing several hundred people if I screw up?

All because Reagan felt their power trip was more important than maintaining safety in a system entirely dependent on maintaining safety.

Federal jobs used to be nice. Stable solid employment for the rest of your life. Nothing glamorous but you wouldn't have to worry while the market goes up and down.

And then last year that completely changed in a bad way

I know there's a lot of negative sentiment here and for good reason, but I think it's just neat whenever someone recognizes that gaming does partially prepare you for certain roles.

I agree games are good for life. Allow you to see situations, real and fictional, and how to apply real puzzle solving to them. Reaction speed it a good perk. Dexterity of eye/hand control.

Puzzle solving

Perspectives

Reaction timing

Situational awareness, situational understanding

Just to name a few.

Pass a law that any government shutdown over a week causes all of Congress to be fired, and I may consider it.

[–] Dionysus@leminal.space 27 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Or congress not to be paid.

Those fuckers still get paid in full.

They protect themselves and fuck over everyone else.

And we keep voting them in.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Congresspeople are already rich. Shutdowns don't really have any impact on them.

[–] Dionysus@leminal.space 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And yet the fuckers still pay themselves.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Right, they always want more, but they can always outlast the poor during a shutdown.

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

They aren’t making their living from congressional paychecks.

[–] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 1 points 1 month ago

The issue is that would impact Congress members that are actually fighting for the average American the most. Those Congress members would theoretically be elected due to grassroots support and are not trust fund babies that have wealthy donors able to keep them afloat. Your McConnells and pelosis could happily outlast the more progressive members.

I'd rather play the GTA San Andreas flight missions non-stop than work for the govt in any capacity.

Finally! As someone who has played the only(?) available English translation of "I am an Air Traffic Controller: Airport Hero" on the 3DS, my time has COME!

What's that? Drug test? .......... Nevermind.

EDIT: But like seriously, are there any other English translations than the Osaka-KIX version? It's all I managed to find scraping about the internet, I'd love if there was a fan translation of some of those old GBA versions with the cute, crunchy pixel work.

That game was so fun

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 20 points 1 month ago

sorry but many free to play games aren't that great so i'll pass.

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They went about this the wrong way. Get with a AAA studio or better yet an indie studio, build an Air Traffic Control game, and then recruit gamers. Sometimes you gotta Top Gun it.

[–] JustAnotherPodunk@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm a pilot. I talk to atc all the time. You don't want a call of duty oficianados and sweaty gamers. You want the kid that plays factoro who also micros farming sims on the side for fun. We have full functioning discords for flying sims already. Those guys are already working for atc. I want that rainman autistic with the verbal skills of an FM radio jockey. Its not an easy job, but fortnight ain't the answer I can promise you that.

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I'm an Avionics tech. Chances are I've repaired, modded or installed a lot of the systems you're talking about, and I don't disagree.

I definitely wasn't talking about Fortnite when I made my comment.

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

The FAA does not have the same level of marketing budget as the military, so dedicated games are less likely.

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (3 children)

You cant pause and restart when those planes make contact on the ground while taxiing

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Just hit F5 before you start so you can reload.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago

I hear they can dock your pay for save scumming something about multiple timelines interfering with reality blah blah blah

[–] Toribor@corndog.social 6 points 1 month ago

True but it does put me in a good position to maximize my kill/death ratio.

[–] Daxelman@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

I'm about to make 9/11 look like child's play.

[–] boeman@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Skill issue

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I wonder if they're talking to any of the VATSIM at controllers. Those guys are quite good.
