Imagine being the most wealthy country in the world, moving your manufacturing out of the country, rebuilding your economy around R&D, then cutting funding to your education and research organizations. It’s absolutely insane. There’s nothing left in the US to keep its relevance.

We're on a downward spiral and politicians are to blame. We're in late stage capitalism where we do circular deals, cut infrastructure, improvements, and education to bail out companies to keep circular deals going.

Can you imagine how furious the shareholders would be if we built hospitals and water treatment facilities with their money?!

Don't for-profit health systems build hospitals?

Probably notuch, just extract as much value as possible out of purchased non-profit or public. When they do, it's likely focused on only the most profitable of departments.

I think blaming it on the politicians is too easy. The individualist "me first" mentality has just naturally done its job here. When greed is rewarded, greed becomes the norm.
