2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.

Not cat but obviously a jackal... (seriously... was the name and the 'weighing the soul of your connection'-thing not enough?)

    Not anime...

Not a nurse... (that's a maple leaf on the cap and since when is a magnifying glass typical medical equipment?)

    Also and much more important:

Not the more annoying (and often failing) Cloudflare screen...

    Not another stupid CAPTCHA...

PS: Did version 1.23.1 really change the Canadian flag with a 'CA'... I have found screen of versions older than that that did display the flag as do newer ones. So I'm really asking myself if that was an intentional edit to get away with the "nurse" argument.

    Scriptjunkie

With that name, I guess he's a JS dev trying to rebrand as a kernel vibecoder.

same fucking vibes, idc how it looks, or how it designed to look like, as long it works as intended then so be it

    [–] HeroicBillyBishop@lemmy.ca 5 points 43 minutes ago

why would anyone be offended by an adorable cartoon nurse girl w cat ears

    [–] germtm_@lemmy.world 75 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

i'd rather be greeted by Anubis than be harassed by CloudFlare.

I'd rather be greeted by the Sphinx and asked to solve a riddle than another captcha.

As the software is called Anubis, technically, ~~she's~~ they're a jackalgirl

    Got a source on this?

The artist uses female pronouns for them.

    [–] OrganicMustard@lemmy.world 9 points 1 hour ago

Mascot seems to be a girl, yes. Main dev is non binary.

    [–] hushable@lemmy.world 1 points 20 minutes ago

Xe is the dev, not the artist

    [–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 29 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

    So far we got

    • not a cat but jackal
    • not a girl but nonbinary
    • not a heart but canada leaf

    I'll add

    • not "something to watch" but OC
    • not a nurse

It's a freaking picture. It's not even anime-like, this is more the western drawing style. Who cares.

    [–] LwL@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

The eye brows visible under the hair and the eye style feel pretty anime coded to me tbh

    [–] smeg@feddit.uk 8 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

It's the big eyes, I reckon

    [–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 hour ago

big eyes of japanese animation where actually inspired by disney so by western influence

    [–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Uh, Simpsons? Hazbin hotel, SpongeBob, most of cartoon network... It's probably catgirl -> anime in their brain.

    [–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

It's a chibi-esque-ish art style - not obviously manga but I can see why someone might think that if they were unfamiliar with the genre

    [–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

Yeah stick figures are so Japanese coded frfr...

...I agree with you but you made me think of it and it's too funny.

    [–] laz@pawb.social 51 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

That's the Canada maple leaf, not a 'nurse thing'

    [–] bonenode@piefed.social 31 points 2 hours ago

Oh, she's from Canada, you wouldn't know her.

    [–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 49 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

    He 100% watches "that stuff"

    [–] inkblade@lemmy.world 11 points 2 hours ago

Probably just wanked off to a catgirl. His post was inspired by the post-nut clarity.

    [–] Hond@piefed.social 33 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Eh, tbh i'm pretty weirded out by most of the anime culture/fandom as well. I pretty much blocked anything anime on the fediverse because i dont want to see it. But the anubis girl didnt even register as anime for me. Even if it did it would be 5 seconds to block that image with ublock.

Anyway, i hope this will be the last time i post about how i dont like certain aspects of anime because nobody gives a shit.

    [–] daggermoon@piefed.world 4 points 1 hour ago

I just see it and think at least it's not captcha.

    [–] yakko@feddit.uk 8 points 3 hours ago

Hell yeah, opinions truly do not matter. I'm not even joking, de gustibus nil disputandum MFer.

    [–] savvywolf@pawb.social 3 points 1 hour ago

Tragic that they don't enjoy any fun in their lives.

    [–] chunes@lemmy.world -2 points 46 minutes ago (1 children)

pointless software that I don't know why anyone uses.

a bot can waste cycles on nothing just as easily as I can

    [–] deadcade@lemmy.deadca.de 3 points 16 minutes ago

The point is how expensive it is. For your 1 request, you wait 2 seconds, and the power draw is a minor inconvenience. For the massive botfarm, it adds up to days of CPU time and a significant portion of the electricity bill.
