I'd never heard of him, till his name started showing up in the news for being an asshole.
I guess I play on the opposite side of YouTube from where he infects.
Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
I'd never heard of him, till his name started showing up in the news for being an asshole.
I guess I play on the opposite side of YouTube from where he infects.
He's huge with the college and younger crowd. It's insane how big his empire is. If you've seen pictures of him he's one of those guys that doesn't smile with his eyes. Super creepy, no charisma that I can see, but kids love him.
He was a bit too showy for my tastes but as I understand it he initially got big for his stunts and challenges which I get. The problem is that its gotten to the point where he's famous for being famous if that makes any sense, which is usually a bad sign.
Didn't he got famous for giving money away in his videos? Or was that after he was famous?
I never watch his videos but sometimes he appears in videos of another guy I follow and I can't stand him. Same for PewDiePie
Dan olsen put out an excellent video essay about him and his "empire" after he was bizarrely invited to their HQ.
If you dont know Dan, he mainly publishes infrequent thought provoking videos into cults, scams, and culture, which is basically the opposite of Mr. Beast content.
He posted this video for a reason.
Fuck if I know. I just know he popped up in my periphery from the challenges since I do like low stakes challenge shit like All The Gear. But his stuff before that? No clue.
I've found All the gear recently because I was looking up camping videos. They're awesome! Which somehow led me to Sorted Foods which are also awesome
(Kitchen gear and food reviews/some challenges like home cook vs professional)
Yeah part of the reason they're so good is because they have enough personality to hold things together while also bouncing off of each other. Plus the weird budget nature of it all helps it stand out from similar things, can't think of anyone else who would try to make a bed out of chicken wire, outside of Uwos Lab but he's doing his own thing.
Normally, the purpose of the employee handbook is so you can wave it around in court to show how much of a goody two shoes you must be. Employee handbooks are litigation-proofing documents.
But MrBeast took an opposite approach and turned his employee handbook into a giant "please sue me for sexual harassment and hostile work environment" poster.

Man, this is probably the third or fourth time I've read excerpts from his rambling steam-of-consciousness they call a handbook. Mr. Beast or whoever wrote that has fucken terrible writing skills.
The whole thing reads like a Facebook post from that one idiot you went to high school with who had no self-awareness. The kind of idiot who makes life difficult for themselves because they don't know when to shut up or disengage.
That might be super specific to some of the people I know, but you get the picture.
But just imagine the closing argument where the plaintiff's attorney puts this quote on a slide, "It's okay for the boys to be childish". And then the next slide is a quote from the witness talking about whatever harassment she endured.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, MrBeast says it's okay for 'the boys' to be childish. But the law says it's not okay. It's not okay for 'the boys' to grope their subordinates."
This stuff writes itself.

to draw from so much stupid shit in his head as inspiration to make jokes and be quirky. As a result he is fucken hilarious. But let's imagine a different Chris, let's say instead of cartoons and stupid shit, his information diet was stocks and investing advice. And for 5 years that's all he consumed. Do you think he'd be just as funny as he currently is? No. He in my opinion wouldn't even be 20% as funny. If you're a writer or director you really need to monitor and perfect your information diet. If your diet is not correct, you won't have a good pulse on culture. I don't want you to be a chris, in fact, I think that would probably do you harm. Talent needs to inhale cartoons so they can be funny, writers need to inhale inspiration. Let's say there is a purple fruit in the middle of Australia that when eaten makes you 2 feet taller. If it truly did exist, you wouldn't have known that until just right now. But now that you know of it, you can draw on it for inspiration for every piece of content you write going forward. That's beautiful, it can now sit in the back of your mind waiting for that one video where it is needed. It might take 10 videos or even 100 but eventually you'll be brainstorming a bit and think of the right one to use the fruit for. Apply this to everything on this fucken planet. You. Can't. Get. Inspired. By. Things. You. Don't. Know. Exist. So how do you learn more about what's out there in the world? How do you stay up to date on the latest memes? How do you know what's going on with celebrities? What's trending on youtube? What other creators are doing? What's popping on tik tok? Your information diet. Consume things on a daily basis that help you write better content.
It's okay for the boys to be childish
If talent wants to draw a dick on the white board in the video or do something stupid, let them. (assuming they know all the risks and arn't missing context on why it's not safe) People like when we are in our natural element of stupidity. Really do everything you can to empower the boys when filming and help them make content. Help them be idiots
We don't fake things
Make sure to prep contestants and try to create an environment where they feel comfortable talking.
Guilty!
