There was also that one where he rhymed "things" with "things"

Time to have a rewatch

My partner showed me this a couple years ago. Now, we'll be talking or I have a thought and the conclusion is "America" to which the follow-up is "want to put it on?"

It hits me harder each time I watch it especially how things have further eroded since then

Edit: I was curious and checked out the comments. They were surprisingly wholesome but I didn't scroll too far. However one sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole and I found something that made me do a double take:

From:
https://allthatsinteresting.com/jim-crow-photos
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_W._Geary

"A racist pro-Clymer campaign poster for the 1866 governor's election."

The text from that image reads

THE TWO PLATFORMS

Every RADICAL in Congress VOTED for NEGRO SUFFRAGE. Every RADICAL in the Pennsylvania Senate VOTED for NEGRO SUFFRAGE. STEVENS, FORNEY & CAMERON are for NEGRO SUFFRAGE; they are all Candidates for the UNITED STATES SENATE. NO RADICAL NEWSPAPER OPPOSES NEGRO SUFFRAGE GEARY said in a Speech, at Barrisburg, 11th of Angust, 1866-"THERE CAN BE NO POSSIBLE OBJECTION TO NEGRO SUFFRAGE"

It's the writing style. If that is the type of material that one reads in their formative years it makes sense that it's emerging again in the twilight years

Ps. I'm sorry I spent so much time on this it just struck me and I had to explore. Made me sick at some points. To be clear, I support everyone's right to vote but the above quoted message was demonizing that sentiment. Also to be clear, Geary was a white man and won that election

I had the absolute fortune to make my way through there at the end of last year. It was so bizarre to me that for the most part people are left alone to follow the rules with no oversight

And for the most part I saw everyone behaving well and not doing anything stupid; except the group of people trying to take pictures of a bison who was clearly unhappy about how close they were getting. He was grazing and would walk away a couple steps and they would follow. The boi was swishing his tail and showing what I saw were "leave me the fuck alone" signs and I had to at least shout to the people to leave him alone and they were fucking idiots. I was HOPING that they got charged and had some sense knocked into them

My partner and I had had discussions previously about what we'd do if something like that was about to happen and the kiddo in the car. If it's just us adults then we'll stay and watch the carnage but we'll take off if they're with us

It's the same sentiment with The Onion and Black Mirror. Having to take a step back because reality is too absurd

Bigger yes, dumber no. It's like saying dogs are dumber than cats. They're just different and "smart" at different things. I don't see packs of tracking cats going out on search and rescue missions

Awww I loved that! The horse was weirded out but mostly ok. His body language was calm and he followed her when she walked away, which is a sign it respects you and sees you as someone to trust and follow

I've noticed that trend, especially with high-volume posters

Some things are posted with substance and other times it's just a link to a pic of a random artefact in a museum. Ok, it's cool looking but is it significant? Not that that matters but if you're going to post something at least include why. Other than "I hit random"

I love this guy. I haven't watched the video yet, so here it is, and I'm going to go watch it now

https://youtu.be/IqfpovtKy2w

Walter Masterson, check out his videos. He was at the Capitol on Jan 6th, he goes to maga rallies dressed as them to interview people. I wish some of the people he goes with were on YouTube, but I think they're only on all the socials and I don't use them

Also if you know of other channels like this can you please share? I'd really appreciate some recommendations of activists

This is from the 60s and it very clearly shows the name as "Lincoln Logs"

Oh yeah 100%. I actually bought a tote of them a few years ago from a second hand store. I was thrilled because it's a couple sets all thrown together. There's a castle with a catapult and boulders, a couple frontier buildings, bits of another set

They absolutely smell the same as they did many decades ago when I had some as a kid

Because grey is a fantastic color, and grey hair is just another color to dye it. Plenty of people dye their hair natural colors, too, not just to cover up greys

And plenty of people with grey/white hair enjoy and love it

Wait , WHAT?? that's one of my favorite movies and I've seen it a million times. I know exactly what scene and pirate you're referring to

From https://screenrant.com/hook-movie-glenn-close-cameo-pirate/

"Glenn Close isn’t the only famous face that can list a cameo in Hook on her résumé. Musicians David Crosby and Jimmy Buffett also appear as members of Hook’s crew, as does boxer and Rocky star Tony Burton. Elsewhere in Hook, stars including actress Carrie Fisher, director George Lucas and musician Phil Collins also make brief cameos."

I had no idea!! I'll have to give it another watch when I get home!

The titles are:
"Reaper Man", "Small Gods", "Wyrd Sisters", "Moving Pictures"

Went to an adorable book shop and found these guys. I haven't read Pratchett yet but I feel it'll be right up my alley

I'm pretty sure I see "Small Gods" and "Wyrd Sisters" recommended a lot and I know you can't really go wrong, but of these which would you recommend the most? Since this is what I have I'll read them all eventually

Regardless I'm excited to have gotten physical copies because my library has long wait lists for his books

Edit: Thanks for all of the discussion! This post brought me a lot of positive on an otherwise rough day. I've decided to start with "Small Gods"

I just want to say again thank you to everyone who responded to me or to someone else. It's been a joy hearing what each person has to contribute to the conversation

Even if they fall flat (which I highly doubt) all of your enthusiasm came through and that really in itself means so much. It was truly touching

2 adults and 1 younger teen

We're going on a two week road trip that'll be fairly leisurely. Stopping by some parks and sights as we go and a few nights at our ultimate destination

I had my car recently serviced. It all checks out

I have a steam deck on the way! Any recommendations here for travel accessories? Or just in general?

We've all got devices and chargers and their respective blocks. I'm looking at a power inverter for the hungrier devices
I was debating bringing the oculus to give whomever a bit of isolation if they need; is there anything specific I'd need to do to use it where there's no internet? I haven't used it enough to be very familiar with most of its abilities

We adults have ps5s. Most likely won't bring one. I've seen portable monitors that people use with a local device; does anyone have experience using one for remote play for the ps5?

And making sure we've got entertainment downloaded to our devices; obviously books and offline/non electronic entertainment will be brought, as well

I'm really looking forward to this and want to make it the best experience for all involved! I look forward to hearing your tips

Edit to add: the point of the road trip is to bury my grandfather. And I'm petrified of flying in the current state of the US

Since we HAVE to make this trip we're trying to make the most of it by stopping by some state/national parks and other landmarks/pois during which we'll be present. But there's going to be LONG stretches of literally nothing exciting. Like corn fields. Many hours of corn fields. Most days are 6 - 10 hours in the car
