No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Yes. But real quick for those who don’t know - a defense counsel says whatever they need to say to get the client out of court/prison/whatever. And that sounds weird until it’s understood that the State has the burden to prove their case and they cheat at every opportunity. That’s because the state has so many resources, and it uses all of them on every bastard that upset a cop.
People go to prison for stealing a candy bar, due to recidivism laws, minimum sentencing, and a shit-ton of Republican legislation for the last fifty years. Additionally, conservatives hold most of the judgeships and some of these people are dumb as f*ck.
So while the lawyer might be an asshole, even if they weren’t they’re still obligated to say their client was wronged, the facts are poor- whatever. That’s the way the adversarial system the US uses works.

One of my favorite anecdotes is about a (white) professor at University of Hawaii-Manoa who had a white student complain about being called a haole, saying it wasn’t fair that Hawaiians could be “racist” against white people. The professor responded “if you’re white in Hawaii you can be one of three things: a haole, a dumb haole, or a dumb fucking haole.”
I grew up white in Hawaii, and I’m happy to say I was only ever called a haole.

Lytvynchuk’s defense attorney, Myles Breiner, claims his client was trying to protect sea turtles, mistaking the monk seal for an aggressive sea lion.
"So his response was not to hurt this monk seal, but to get it away from the turtles," Breiner stated.

Most rich people I've known are not famous, have no private security, and have an unsecured iPhone which they do not keep in lockdown mode. If a person is famous or known to be rich, they might have security, but most rich people look normal and aren't famous. I am aware that I don't know everyone on the planet.

Information about monk seals is all over Hawaii. The idea that this guy who visits frequently and is a fisherman would not know what a monk seal is is absurd. At minimum it should be cause for him to be banned from the state for being too stupid to safely travel there.
Also, even if that wasn't a critically endangered species, attacking marine mammals of any species is still illegal. One of his charges is for violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
Throwing big rocks at wild animals is a cunts act and he should reap what he's sown.
While snorkeling at St John USVI I was following a sea turtle from a distance. It was just such a vibe to watch this thing eating the turtle grass. Then some asshole comes flailing towards the turtle with a gopro on a stick and basically starts poking it. The turtle swam away with the guy chasing it. Pissed me off so much.
I went to a bar that evening and told the bar tender this story. He stopped what he was doing and looked sternly at me. He said in that moment I witnessed the turtle being harassed, if I had swam to shore and gotten some locals to help find a ranger then the dude would have been lucky to just walk away with a large fine and not get his ass kicked by the locals as well. Bartender made me promise to report it if I saw it again.
This! I don't care if it's endangered. I don't care if it's marine. I don't care if it's wild. Throwing rocks at any animal is enough to get your ass beat. Full stop.
