Apparently 5 of 9 musical acts have cancelled, stating generally that they were misled regarding the nature of the event. Enormous thanks to the artists who have cancelled, from your old fans and new fans worldwide!!

"After the lineup for the concerts was announced, the hip-hop artist Young MC said he would not perform, adding that “artists were never told about any political involvement with the event.” The funk-soul group the Commodores, the rock musician Bret Michaels and Morris Day and the Time also canceled performances.

“Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be part of,” Mr. Michaels, the frontman of the rock group Poison, wrote on social media."

In an interview with TMZ published on Friday, Vanilla Ice said that he did not think the concert should be “any political thing,” adding, “I don’t even vote, so I don’t even care.”

The rapper, who has appeared at a New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago, said he would be happy to perform for anyone.

“You play for your fans,” he said. “And I’ll go play for Putin, and I’ll play in Iran if you want. It don’t matter.”

Vanilla Ice continuing to be just unbelievably cringe.

There's ICE in his name. What did you expect?

[–] radioactivefunguy@piefed.ca 5 points 1 hour ago

His name is likely why he gets these MAGA gigs in the first place . . .

Vanilla Ice continuing to be just unbelievably cringe.

Even when they're LIVE they sound pre-recorded. Is that their "style"? Why go see them live, buy the CD.

He wants to headline and do his own rally.

How much fun would it have been if instead of canceling, they just didn't show up? Great big advertising schemes, tons of hype, and then a great big silence. Legal retaliation is probably the big reason why they're being upfront about it, but I would pay to see Trump getting stood up and embarrassed in the moment instead of having time to re-plan.

“Cancel it,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding, “We should have a giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY, for 250, instead of having overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear, whose music is boring, and yet who do nothing but complain.”

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 5 points 49 minutes ago

and yet who do nothing but complain.

Has anyone kept count for how much the tangerine pedophile has whined in his second term?

I vaguely remember the Bicentennial. The special quarters. Parades & fireworks. I know it was in the wake of Vietnam, and I remember MIA flags. I know it was in the middle of the Carter-Ford campaign, but I don't remember it being a Republicans-only kind of thing. Maybe I was just young and naive.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

i sorta remember it too. we were in a very small town back then, parade and big block party. the whole town was there. i would guess pretty much every small town from coast-to-coast had something similar.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 hour ago

he never did gaf about the music. all he wants is to be center stage and rant and rage against everything that someone with a million dollars to stuff in his diaper wants him to hate.

[–] phar@lemmy.world 13 points 2 hours ago

What a whiny little bitch he is

[–] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 11 points 2 hours ago

I’m just about done season 5 of the boys and I just can’t stop seeing everything from that show being relevant with what’s going on in America.

It hurts how campy that show is and yet even though we don’t have literal super heroes we still have garbage homelander.
