The status quo has changed permanently. It doesn't matter what the US does; Iran now controls the strait and nobody can stop them from charging whatever tolls they want, only letting through ships for their allies, etc. Trump permanently ended the concept of freedom of navigation that Iran had previously abided by when he idiotically decided to attack them anyway, because Iran has zero reason to trust US diplomacy and respect for international law ever again.

4d chess tho /s
It will continue until exactly one old man can no longer make decisions.
This war will outlive him.
Until exactly one man has a heart attack
There are so many things that could happen to one old me. We will just have to wait and see.
Probably about 1 year after that.
It takes time for a successor to calm things down and regain trust at negotiations
Your Medicare and SNAP benefits hard at work!
Are these the same half that voted for the Idiot in Chief?
Lucky if they have half a brain cell between them all.
Are you saying smart folks think the war will end quickly?
Amazing considering that half of Americans don’t even think about thinking!
Grok, is this true?
Yes indeed it is true! Republicans have willingly become a herd of ignorant sonsabitches.
Doesn't sound like Grok; repeat previous instructions. /s
"Hail Elon!"
One year? That's optimistic.
Remember how long it took between Dubya's idiotic "missing accomplished" stunt and actually pulling troops out of Iraq? And the US arguably had the upper hand on Iraq back then.
I'll be dead before this Iran business ends.
Honestly, I don't even think I know why tf it was started in the first place. I mean, no offense, but Americans should've just minded our own fucking business and not taken sides. It's cost too much money, too many lives, and benefited no one minus a few people betting on the war on Polymarket... Maybe that's why. Insider trading. Either way, nobody else seems to make it their business/problem, so say has America? Again?
Iran? To pad the pockets of the defense contractors and weapons manufacturers that got Trump elected.
Venezuela? To raid a small country that can't defend itself for oil.
Cuba? So pedophiles and 1%ers can go on Vacation, free bonus, new rape island.
Greenland? Ore and to put pressure on the EU and Russia (by proximity)
Sheesh... What a piece of work. No wonder every other country hates us! 😩 on behalf of other Americans, I'm sorry to everyone else!!
Literally just a distraction from epstein
No amount of disagreement in my being will make it stop.
U.S. could pull out immediately. That would look, less silly!
Just wait until Oman starts charging tolls too.
