Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

..... Heeeeey what time is it meant to be? It has been afternoon at least for a while but their appointment is in 6 hours? That doesn't add up, unless that doctor takes patients at night! What are you hiding?!

(Sorry, I've just binge-watched a bunch of Only Murders in the Building)

Sidenote, what helps people to deal with ADHD (or to benefit from it)?

  • Medicine
  • cognitive behavioral therapy
  • lot's of different "tools", because they'll all won't work someday. e.g.:

I've got multiple other neuro divergent colleagues and we'll often have a phone call open just to work alongside each other, because we all benefit from that external form of commitment. But that sometimes to much of a distraction and than it's time to blast loud music in a darkned room with nothing else but "work stuff" in it.

You can also "use" other people for coworking simply by going to a place where people work in public like a library, unless your work is bound to a place or distracts others.

Never got into the silent call for work thing, but probably I'm just too antisocial. This all tracks, I do/did most of the other stuff.

Getting into meditation is also something I can recommend, just for the practice it gives you with wrangling your internal cacophony.

some non-ripoff meditation resourceshttps://mindfulnessexercises.com/audio-library/ has a free library of guided meditations. I can personally recommend Tara Brach & Jack Kornfield.

I self medicate with caffeine, maintain a strong routine, work in a task oriented field/frame all my work as tasks, take advantage of hyper focus sessions to knock out a shit ton of work, and set alarms on my phone for when to start things.

I’m 42 now and was diagnosed with ADD when I was in the 2nd grade.

waow, this meme is so me again, nyaaa

waaaaaaaaaaaa what helps, i wanna find it, without stimulants awawawawawawaa

cw meds(recreational use)
anecdotally pregabalin helped me VERY much, but i got tolerance to any effect(even lable ones) very very fast in 4 days, i took it at night, feel insane stimulation up to dont having desire to sleep(did twice daytime instead), but having strong desire todo something, it was weirrrd, i was productive even at night, focused, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, my post-antipsychotic motor trash was repaired, "body high" it was aweeesommeee, sensory load was better, mind is pretty structured, visual processing better, somewhat euphoria yuh, but not drunk not sedated(stimulated instead), just maybe feeling more "normal"

well it was pretty low dose within theraupetic, i was felt that effect going away similar ~ to half-life duration, adhd rebound etc

stimulants in this faschist asshole are banned completly(prison for getting it from somewhere else)

guanfacine/clonidine is approved for adhd, but i had as muscle relaxant somehwat similar to clonidine, tizanidine, but got tolerance to it very fast like 3-4 days maybe after every dose increase, does clonidine will be same?
