In Barcelona some days there's a weird haze in the air. A colleague from the suburbs recently had a small panic thinking he needs to evacuate, but the firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

For people living in the suburbs of Madrid it's a real danger. That one is out of control and no end in sight.

There a lot more, all over Spain. Most of the county is uninhabited so it doesn't impact too many people. But if you're driving somewhere, be careful.

Edit: Here's a live map

No idea, some kind of bug, or too much traffic. Works fine for me.

Actually, does your browser have a referer stripping option or plugin? Some kind of overzealous tracking prevention?

Probably, I have no idea. Maybe uBlock origin. The thing is that it blocks tiles at random, I took that screenshot because it was easier to read.

Thanks for the reply, planning on going to Barcelona, I figured the risk shouldnt be to high there, since it's coastal

You shouldn't be worried anyway. By the end of September it's highly likely all the fires will be gone.

This was the sun on Thursday, driving out of the smoke plume it was a clear blue sky

If you're going to downtown Madrid it is fine, sometimes some smoke scent is in the air but not much more. It you are going to northwest Madrid however the fires are still raging there. This story has a live map of the active fires in Madrid.

What parts of Spain are you planning to visit?

Also, your disinterest in the plight of the French is curious..

There needs to be a term for this particular form of projection.

I'm on a nominally French-speaking instance so the casual francophobia I learned from Monty Python has to be kept in check.

I live in the northeast US; the last few summers have brought wildfire smoke from Canada down to us. It’s headache inducing and all around not great to be outside when it’s bad, but all it takes is a shift in the wind and the smoke can dissipate quickly. I wouldn’t worry about the fall if I was you, there’s plenty of time for them to get control of the fires
