‘Complete unraveling’ of Trump and Republican project reflects attitude of not caring at all about governance He was always one step ahead. Donald Trump won the US presidency as a wildly unlikely outsider in 2016 and staged an astonishing comeback to win it again in 2024. Even his foes grudgingly called him a political savant with an intuition for exploiting grievances that left so-called experts floundering. But now they are asking if the dark genius has lost his touch. Trump is trapped in the quagmire of ...

Even his foes grudgingly called him a political savant with an intuition for exploiting grievances that left so-called experts floundering.

No, we called him a psychopath with a dangerously large cult following. Experts only "floundered" because you can't reason with madness.

He's not a fucking "dark genius," just a malignant narcissist in a country that systemically rewards malignant narcissism.

This assumes it won't be rigged or some sort of national emergency cancels the midterms

[–] blastosist@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Let’s hope so

This is NOT True! HIGH prices and DEAD soldiers are a SMALL Price to Pay for FREEDOM!

-Patriots with "KAMALA = HIGH PRICES" signs STILL in their Yards!

I still find it wild that the conservatives are still trying to pitch their ideology under this administration as one of "common sense".

Of course, all they want to talk about is "men in women's sports".

I suspect they are hammering on that for a reason. It's probably the only thing in which they are polling above water.

Which will never not be weird to me. If it really matters then it should be done by weight class not assigned birth genitalia. I am 194cm tall and I have met several women who play for the WNBA who are taller than me. I am genuinely convinced the only reason we don’t have coed sports is because million dollar athlete men couldn’t handle being dunked on by a woman.

Watch some Olympic events next time it's on. Men have a clear advantage, scoring significantly higher. It's necessary to separate men and women into different categories or women wouldn't bother participating.

Of course you get the odd man that wants to identify as a women so they can win something they wouldn't otherwise be able to, modern problems require modern solutions

Fuck off bigot.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Concentration camps? No big deal.

Honestly, fuck everyone in this shit country.

[–] Gandhi70@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

No problem. Dumb and his Croonies will just fake the election results.

Time for the GOP Cheat Machine to kick into high gear!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Maybe in a typical election in, say, the early 90s, before massive amounts of right-wing propaganda being shoved down "legacy" media pipelines and now for the past 20 years the "social media" pipelines...not to mention all the election fuckery being done by the conservatives.

I mean, sure, I hope the Republicans are decimated in this coming election. But I also know we are surrounded by gullible and hateful people that have next to no critical thinking or media literacy skills.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

The pedophilia was fine for Trump's followers, though. They may have actually started supporting him more after that.

[–] Adulated_Aspersion@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Endless war, high gas prices ...and then

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Complete unravelling will mean they hopefully lose one house of Congress but probably won't lose the other? This is stupid fucking hyperbole.

It'd be nice if it was true, but it's not.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's not impossible for Dems to claim both chambers, but the Senate is less likely. Especially now that Platner's out of the race.

Either way, the Senate won't have the numbers to convict in the event the House successfully impeaches, so really the best we can hope for is to stall the republican agenda until 2028. And with Schumer and Jeffries at the lead, even that's no guarantee...

But we what we can do is grow the progressive caucus, demonstrating the DSA's electability, and get a progressive chairperson in the DNC. Then in 2028, primary all the establishment Dems and run candidates people can get excited about.

It's not ideal, but nothing realistic ever is. It's either incremental progress or no progress at all, and people who claim otherwise are either childishly ignorant or attempting to derail.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

not impossible for Dems to claim both chambers, but the Senate is less likely.

Zacly. Article is hyperbole on fascists "falling apart". heh.

And yes, zacly again, no way we could get impeachment - or rather, the removal part that we actually want, and probably not another impeachment at this point.

And zacly again, we need to grow DSA / progressives.

In some ways, it'll be worse in 2028 if we did manage to win both houses - "bUt DeMoCrAtS cOnTroLleD ConGrESs" propaganda would be off the scale. I mean, fascist propagand is off the scale in general, but they'd certainly have a field day with that especially. heh.

It's bad enough that we have to worry about Dems (much less Progressives) gaining control enough to get anything done (filibuster...... meh......), but if we DO gain control, two or four years later back to Republicans Save The Nation From Democrats Who Can't Do Shit and they sit on their ass and do shit (except they DO give more money to the wealthy again)...... :sigh:

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Okay. But with representation like H Jeffries, nothing will change.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 9 points 2 days ago

Most conservatives don't care, and when they do care they don't understand.

[–] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 days ago
[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

If it doesn't then it's all over. We lost america to the fascists.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Not if they rig the elections!

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 6 points 2 days ago

And this will only manifest if people actually vote…still tons of apathetic voters out there.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Muricans will still vote for republicans…

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There aren't going to be midterms.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 2 points 2 days ago

There are.

The question is what happens after.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca -4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

LOL...y'all still think there will be an election this fall?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'll bet you think that's an edgy comment, but it's just dumb, with a B. There will be a Midterm election, and MAGA will try to derail it afterwards, but it's going to be such a bloodbath, that they won't be able to do anything about it.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Ok, so no one in government has suggested a national emergency this fall would be convenient.

This is the guy who lead an armed insurrection when he lost. You might think you're having an election, just like Russia has elections.
