piracy doesn't require permission

Agreed. I don't understand people who think it does. Especially not people who think that while presenting themselves as anarchists.

It shouldn't be allowed to be pirated, it should just become open source/society's property by default in that case. You don't want to sell your digital only item or maintain it's platform anymore? Fine, now everyone can have it.

Its a great point and something I was talking to people on other forums. At this point for many many games, people whobare pirating and emulating games are really preserving them.

Like there's a tons of games where I have no "legal" way to acquire and play without having to either get really really lucky at various second hand markets and stuff or just emulate. So what's the issue?

Obviously if your playing old games you arent spending $80 on new games.

No doubt. Nobody but collectors are making money on 3DS games. No real grey area at all IMO. I'll pirate the shit outta em

Modded 3DS is great. Super easy to do and you can use the hShop to download pretty much every game ever released plus their updates and DLC.

Been a while since I touched the 3DS moddiny scene. What exactly is the hShop?

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 6 points 1 week ago

It's just a piece of software that will download and install any game you want.

It's like, a free/pirate eShop but also with cartridge games.

Any good resources for getting into modding one? Most I ever did on my phat DS was get a flashcart, how much more involved is it to get pirated games running on 3ds?

https://3ds.hacks.guide/

It's all just free software now. No need to buy a cartridge from a potentially shady webside. Just run the exploit which downloads/installs some files and flashes custom firmware on your device. At that point, you can install hShop which is essentially the App Store for pirated 3DS games.

I think you are correct. After all, punishment should be based on the damage you caused the right-owner. If he then stopps to trade the product the damage is by definiton 0.

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

They'll argue it hurts them because it lowers sales of new versions of the games.

[–] Auster@thebrainbin.org 6 points 1 week ago

If something's allowed to be pirated, it can't be pirated.

[–] railway692@piefed.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Apparently the typical Japanese take on this is that game companies don't owe customers access to games they don't sell anymore.

Which, I could get on board with, if they didn't try to sue me for the profits they weren't losing.

Brothers what i would give for a remaster of Chromehounds on console.

Big stompy triple doubles, whack ass drinking bird howitzers, a swam of pile driver piranhas, Gator snipers, all the things.

I would love to see a couple modern MOBA teams running a tournament. Who is running radar? Is someone rushing base with a pile driver? Who is that widow main in the gator over on the edge of the combat area?

It would be glorious.

Well, to be fair Nintendo doesn't have digital only games. At least no first party ones. I assume things like sukia game aren't available physically.

They are distributing cards with just the licence key for switch2 games. No way to play once the online store is offline
